We Review Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (Xbox 360)

It seems that the world is currently going through a Prince-mania phase, with the “Prince of Persia” movie doing reasonably well for itself at the box office. So if you were hoping for a movie review, you’re going to be a tad bit on the disappointed end of things. On the other hand, what you ARE reading is a review for the new Prince of Persia video game, subtitled “The Forgotten Sands”. So if you were hoping for one of those, well done! It’s your lucky day! Either way, it’s an entertaining review. If you’re already familiar with the Prince of Persia franchise (as any decent gamer should be), feel free to gloss, bleary-eyed, over the next two or so paragraphs, because what follows is a short history lesson. You’re welcome to stay for the entertaining read, though. It continues after the jump.

Pure Football Competition: We Have a Winner!

Uruguay played France in the second match of the 2010 soccer world cup and resulted in another draw, this time with no goals being scored at all, and an altogether forgettable match. This result does brings our Pure Football competition to an end. You may have seen our “half-time” stats and noticed that a small percentage of entrants (three to be exact) made it from the previous round having correctly predicted the outcome of the South Africa versus Mexico clash. From those three entrants, only one person guessed game #2 would end in a draw , so congratulations go to:

Jarred “Crystal Ball” Milner

====<() PAAAAARP!!! Congratulations Jarred, you’ve scored a copy of Pure Football for Playstation 3! Hard luck to the other entrants, but we do have one more copy of the game to give away so check back next week for another competition.

A big shout out to Ubisoft for organizing the competition prizes.

Pure Football Competition: Half-Time Results!

The first game of the 2010 soccer world cup has ended and that marks the half-way point in our latest competition. You might recall that we’re giving away two copies of Ubisoft’s Pure Football and to stand a chance of winning a copy, we asked you to predict the outcome of both opening games today. With South Africa having drawn the match against Mexico, it means neither team came out victorious and that spells bad news for our competition entrants who predicted a win from either side. Here are some of our half-time stats in case you’re interested:

  • Percentage of entrants who predicted a South Africa win: 67%
  • Percentage of entrants who predicted a Mexico win: 25%
  • Percentage of entrants who predicted a draw: 8%
  • Percentage of Playstation 3 entrants: 64%
  • Percentage of Xbox 360 entrants: 36%

Congratulations to the handful of entrants who have made it into the second round of our competition. If you have predicted the correct outcome of the next game ,Uruguay versus France, you will gain entry into the final round, and with that a chance of winning Pure Football. Good luck!

Win Copies of Pure Football!

NOTE: Entry into this competition is now closed. We’ll announce the winners soon, I promise.

The 2010 FIFA World Cup is two days away and the united blare from Vuvuzelas all around South Africa is helping to ramp up the excitement levels. Our friends at Ubisoft are excited too, not only about the month-long spectacle awaiting us, but also their first foray into the core soccer genre, Pure Football. English captain Steven Gerrard graces the cover of this five-a-side arcade simulation that emphasizes aggression and physicality that perhaps might not be allowed in normal games of footy.

We’ve got two copies of Pure Football and don’t know what to do with them. You could take one of them off our hands by simply predicting the outcome of the two World Cup games that will be happening this Friday, South Africa vs Mexico and Uruguay vs France. Make your predictions, send us your entry, and wait for us to give you some good news. Dead simple right? Find the full details after the jump.

The Darksiders Competition Winners

Our Darksiders competition has finally come to an end. In case you missed the action, we started off the competition asking people to toss a turtle as far as they could. Many productive work hours were lost in the process, and in the short space of two days, some of the entrants had klapped the game so hard that they surpassed the theoretical maximum score! So an update to the competition was required, and we went into a sudden death round, where a score over 10 million guaranteed the entrant a place in the next round.

Six persistent entrants made it into the sudden death round and we asked them to play one of my favourite indie games from last year, Adam Atomic’s Canabalt. They had 24 hours to submit their scores. That time has expired and we have now arrived at the official winners announcement. Find it after the jump.

Darksiders Competition: An Important Update

Note: This competition has ended.

Gamers, sometimes they are like bulls in a china shop. Two days into our Darksiders competition, and two very persistent (read: crazy) people have surpassed the theoretical maximum high score for the flash game we selected for the competition. That completely blindsided us ad we hadn’t expected such dedication so early in the proceedings. Needless to say, there is only one PS3 copy of Darksiders up for grabs, so we have had to make an adjustment to the competition. If you have entered, please take a look at the update after the jump.

Play “Toss the Turtle” and Win Darksiders!

Note: This competition has ended.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing Darksiders (read our review here) and in our first competition in 2010, we want you to experience that feeling too. Thanks to our sponsors, SterKinekor, we’re giving away a copy of Darksiders for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, and a Darksiders-branded t-shirt to go with each copy.

Instead of the usual lucky draw type of competition, we’re trying to keep things a little different here at Onelargeprawn. Based on the popularity of our play-a-game-to-win-a-game idea last year with our Boxhead competition, we’re going to ask you to do something heinous…to a turtle. You might go to hell for it, but I’d like to think the end justifies the means. ;-)

So what do you have to do? Find out after the jump.

Naughty Bear is Mad, Seeks Bloody Revenge

Teddy bears are so cute and cuddly that you just want to pinch their cheeks. Naughty Bear hates that generalization, but do you know what he hates more? Not being invited to another bear’s birthday party. He’s so mad he could spit axe somebody.

Developed by Artificial Mind and Movement (they made WET), Naughty Bear is an upcoming open-world action-adventure title that has you playing as the shaggy psychopathic bear, trying to hurt the other adorable bears on Paradise Island, and earning “Naughty Points” along the way.

Have a look at the teasers after the jump.

The Assassin’s Creed II Crossword Puzzle Winners!

Assassin’s Creed II recently picked up the Best Action Adventure Game accolade in Spike TV’s Video Game Awards, and a week ago, we gave you the chance of winning a copy of it on the console of your choice. You were tasked with solving our crossword puzzle and then decoding the anagram that was formed by specially marked letters on the puzzle. The answer we were looking for was LINEAGE, which not only deals with genealogy, but is conveniently the name of the 3-part story that serves as a prequel to Assassin’s Creed II.

The first PS3 entry arrived within 21 minutes of the competition being posted, with the Xbox 360 entry arriving but a minute later. For their quick work these lads get an extra two entries into our draw. We had another good turn out so a big thanks to all that entered but the most important mystery is yet to be solved – who snagged the prizes? Could you be one of the winners? Well hit the jump to find out.

Solve Our Crossword Puzzle & Win Assassin’s Creed II!

NOTE: This competition has ended.

Buoyed by the popularity of our last competition, I wanted to create something equally awesome for this, our latest one. I think it’s quite cool, but I’ll let you be the judge of that.

Let me break it down for you. It’s the late 15th century, and you are a happy-go-lucky chap in the beautiful city of Florence. It’s pay day and you have joined the lads at the local piazza. Whilst enjoying your drink, you notice a sultry bird a couple of tables across, and you saunter over for look. The conversation starts politely, but quickly turn flirtatious, and before you know it you’re inviting her back to your place for “a cup of tea, and a lie down”.

She has an even better idea – there’s more fun to be had at her place where her equally beautiful sister wants in on the action. There is a slight complication – her house is guarded by the most fiercest dog in all Tuscany, capable of tearing a man limb from limb in mere minutes. However, the uttering the correct password renders the mutt as meek as a lamb. Before you can ask what the password is, she stuffs a parchment into your shirt pocket, and rushes off. Scanning the parchment, you realize it is a puzzle that, once decoded, could result in a night of pleasure…

Considering the title of the post, I’m sure you have worked out that the prize is not a lusty threesome, but something much sweeter. Courtesy of Ubisoft, we’re giving away two copies of the universally acclaimed Assassin’s Creed II* (one for the PS3, and one for Xbox 360) and we’ve thrown in some kit too. To snag one of the prizes, you will need to solve a puzzle of sorts. Find all the details after the jump.
