AJ Fosik’s animal sculptures are truly striking and remind me of the Sri Lankan devil masks that are used in dances to ward off evil spirits. What initially looked like papercraft to me is in fact wood and Fosik is able to work wonders with the material. He uses wood, paint, nails, and minimal help from his computer to create some very colourful, intricate, and hypnotic 3D pieces. Have a look at them after the jump.

Wooden Firepower: The Jenga Pistol
Sometimes I push it in a little too far and other times I’m told I need to poke it a little harder. Get your mind out the gutter, we are obviously talking about Jenga here. And woodwork inventor Matthas Wandel is ready to take the game out of the stone ages with the Jenga Pistol. Made of wood, the pistol has a rubber band mechanism that shoots a bolt through the pistol and into the block. Click play to see it in action.
And head to Woodgears for instructions on how to build your own – via I Heart Chaos.
I’m terrible at drawing. Elephants in Thailand can draw better than me. But not any more, British designer Thomas Forsyth came up with an awesome way for me to outdraw those fiendish pachyderms. It is the Drawing Top – with a pen or pencil as the spindle, Forsyth’s wooden drawing tops spin on a sheet of paper creating some unpredictable results.
