A Humorous Look at Technology

We live in an age of wonder where people are able to communicate with each other instantly. Using cell phones, computers, and gaming consoles, to name but a few. We have become so reliant upon these marvels, that to envision living life without them is down-right scary. It has integrated into our very fabric of existence, and it is funny to see how we have evolved with it.

I’m sure all of you, me included, have had a discussion along these very same lines at some point in the recent past. How would life have turned out differently without cell phones? I personally cannot imagine a life without mine. But it’s not just cell phones that shape the way we live; we depend on televisions, refrigerators, microwaves and coffeemakers (who can function without coffee these days?).

Let’s take a look at the comical aspect of how we as humans have evolved along with technology and where inevitably it might lead. Read more after the jump.

Real Fake!

Alex Roman is tricksy. The artist from Madrid, Spain created a superb 60-second TV commercial for Silestone, a brand of quart counter tops. Have a look at it below.

Did you notice anything different about it? Yes, the commercial is entirely computer-generated. For realsies! I’m just shocked at how real those CGI lemons look. I wonder how long it will be before real actors get digitized and I can watch a movie starring the actor of my choice? It couldn’t come soon enough, I’d rather watch Nathan Fillion in the upcoming Uncharted flick. Yes, I’m bitter about Marky Mark being chosen, bitter like a lemon.

The Big Lebowski vs MacGyver

We’ve covered a few great mashups in the past and we may have stuck Internet gold yet again. YouTuber beckspacering has mashed together the opening theme music of one of TV’s most resourceful heroes and clips of film’s most laid-back slacker. For your viewing pleasure here is the MacGyver/Big Lebowski mashup, The DudeGyver.

Brilliant stuff. But is it the ultimate mashup? Maybe not – my money’s still on Han Solo, P.I. although Lebowski, P.I. is growing on me.

Han Solo, P.I.

When I was growing up I wanted to be a private dick – by dick I mean a detective and not a rent boy or someone called Richard. Magnum, P.I. was a role model for me – he lived in a fancy house, drove a Ferrari 308 GTS, had unlimited supplies of beer, and always got the ladies. I dreamed of living a life like but minus the bushy moustache and overflowing chest hair that Magnum had – that was just nasty. But I digress (I seem to do a lot of that don’t I?)

Han Solo, P.I. is another fan-made Star Wars TV intro mashup of the Magnum, P.I. main title sequence but with Harrison Ford as Han Solo. Check it out.

This mashup is pretty remarkable in how closely it follows the original. Watch the side-by-side comparison below.

Battlestar Galactica – It’s not the end!

I’m one of those hopeless people that gets all depressed and a little crazy when one of their favourite TV series comes to an end. You should have seen me after the finale of the first season of Lost – hatters weren’t in it mate. I couldn’t sleep at night because I hadn’t gotten my weekly dose of jungle drama, spent all day wondering what was happening to Sayid and Kate and Jack on that godforsaken piece of rock in the middle of nowhere, talked about all the characters all the time to anyone who would listen including the cats – I think I pretty much took my whole household down crazy street with me.

Anyway Lost has been replaced in my affections by the brilliant and gripping Battlestar Galactica. We watched the last episode ever the other night, and as you may have guessed, I’ve been feeling pretty down (although that might also be the gentle caresses of PMS). Today I was reading some arb non-sense about second hand smoke and one of those nearly always awful advertising banners caught my eye. Usually I can just zone that crap out, but this one was different, special even. It was advertising  a spin-off of my beloved Battlestar Galactica, and it’s called Caprica. Oh yes oh yay. The series is a prequel of sorts, set 58 years before the holocaust at the hands of the dreaded Cylons on the planet Caprica. It might not be as good as Battle Star Galactica – some people are bitching about it already, but I can’t wait to see it nonetheless.

Here for your viewing pleasure is a sneaky preview.
