Magnificent “Planet Aurora” Time-Lapse Video by Goran Strand

We love aurorae. So ethereal and majestic, the natural light displays have captured the attention of many a viewer (and photographer).

When a sunspot the size of the Earth produced a coronal mass ejection, Göran Strand a photographer from Sweden happened to be at an ideal place to capture the interaction of Earth’s magnetic field and the solar winds. Over the course of four hours, Strand took 2,464 raw images totalling over 40 GB of data and created a magnificent time-lapse video of the event.

Lights Over Lapland

This labour of love took Chad and Linnea Blakley three years to create. What started out as a summer job in Abisko National Park, Sweden quickly turned into an obsession, and Chad found employment at the park’s Aurora Sky Station. Hunting for the phenomenal light display became his day (and night) job.

His time-lapse video of the swirling aurorae over the Swedish skies is composed from 2,000 hours of footage and is free from any type of colour correction. Have a look at the Lights Over Lapland below.

You Won’t Believe They’re Oil Paintings

Artists do photo-realism with strokes of a brush. Swedish artist Linnea Strid considers the photo-realistic style as her medium of expression and it certainly shows. In this post we take a look at her fascination with water and its, erm, watery qualities. But it’s not all skin-deep as Strids mentions in an interview with My Modern Metropolis:

Art can be viewed in different ways, and one person can look at a piece that I’ve made and just think “oh, that’s a pretty picture, it’s very well done”. I don’t judge people who can’t spot anything more in my work than that, and it’s ok. But after a first glance you can also come to the conclusion that a painting like “Rinse and exhale” can tell you some sort of alternative story, like why is she taking a shower with her clothes on? And the water running on her face, is it only water or are they tears? I don’t want to be too obvious when I make a painting, I want the viewer to decide what it means and what the painting is telling them.

Find some of Strid’s impressive photo-realistic oil paintings after the jump.

Continuity: An Awesome Tile-Sliding Platformer

I was on Twitter and picked up a vibe that @NickdeBruyne from LazyGamer may be getting bored, something that was realized when tweeted this: “OK, I’m really bored now.”

So I made it my goal this afternoon to keep him occupied, a task that didn’t prove too difficult. I suggest that Nick try Continuity, an awesome tile-sliding puzzle platformer from Ragtime Games, a bunch of university students from Gothenburg, Sweden. Here are Nick’s responses.

RT: @onelargeprawn: @NickdeBruyne Have you played Continuity? http://www.continuitygame.com >> DAMMIT DUDE CUT IT OUT lolol

Oh and @andyroyal pipes in.

RT @NickdeBruyne: I think we can all agree that @onelargeprawn is the cock of the day <= I second that… DAMN YOU

Where I come from, we take things like “screw you” and “F*ck you” as signs of respect and gratitude, so you chaps are more than welcome ;-) If you’d like to find out what Nick, Geoff, and Andy are so engrossed in, head to www.continuitygame.com.
