HALLUCINOGENIC OSTRICH EGG!

If you enjoyed the surrealist ice fishing video, then you might get a kick out of this too. Created by CRAZY DAVE TAPE, this bizarre little clip shows an early human as he comes upon a nest of ostrich eggs. The primitive caveman cracks open an egg and goes on an unexpected trip.

PONPONPON! A Surreal J-Pop Music Video

I know more about the Hadron Collider than what goes on in the minds of some Japanese people. In the music video for her debut J-pop single for Warner Music Japan, “PONPONPON”, blogger and model Kyary Pamyu Pamyu welcomes you to her “doll house”. It’s a rather odd place where floating brains and eyes embedded in toast are commonplace, and even her farts are strikingly colourful. You must see this video, be warned though, the tune can be extremely catchy and/or unbearably annoying.

If you’d like an English translation of the lyrics, see it at Wonky Translation. If this video made complete sense to you, then do drop us a comment and let us know what any of this madness means.

Surreal Photo of the Day

“This has to be ‘shopped!” I said. Digital sorcery, computer jiggery-pokery. But according to Frans Lanting and National Geographic, this is not a painting of camel thorns in the Namib-Naukluft Park, but an actual photograph of camel thorns in the Namib-Naukluft Park, where the backdrop is a dune that happens to be tinted orange by the morning sun. Well played Mr. Lanting, well played.

This image forms part of the feature story “Africa’s Super Park” that will appear in the June issue of National Geographic. See the full image after the jump.

Green Porno Educational Videos

This is altogether surreal and weirdly delightful. Green Porno is a series of short films penned by and staring actress Isabella Rossellini. These educational videos take a look at the reproductive habits of various insects and marine animals, and whether she is getting her head eaten off  as a praying mantis or has a massive whale erection, Rossellini plays all the characters with charm and wit.

Green Porno is scientifically accurate yet so cheeky and silly. Have a look at two of our favourite episodes below. They might be NSFW on the account of simulated sex and heavy breathing.

The Twisted, Violent Worlds of Charlie Immer

This is beautifully gross. Flights through other worlds can often be whimsical, but Charlie Immer is tired of that stereotype. The worlds created by this artist and illustrator from New York are harrowingly dangerous, where the creatures in the scenes are about to meet their end in a most brutal and gory way. Danger lurks around every corner, a cautionary tale indeed.

The Cup of Tears

Straight out of Ireland comes what could be an unexpected martial arts gem. The Cup of Tears is the directorial debut of Gary Shore and features ancient samurai empires battling it out in a post-apocalyptic future. Need I say more? Probably.

This is the official synopsis.

Cup Of Tears follows a scorned geisha who creates a magical cup made of tears that causes any man who drinks from it to fall into a permanent sleep. One night the cup is stolen, setting off a chain of events that threatens civil war amongst the clans. Taro, a gifted samurai, sets out to find the cup and one who can break the spell.
