Sweet llamas of the Bahamas! I have seen super heroes re-imagined as Mr Men, furry felines, and even gender-swapped. But I don’t think anything could be as epic as this.
In his series of portraits, Flickr user David Resto (d.r3sto) imagines some popular Marvel comic book characters as if they were creatures from the Cretaceous and the Jurassic periods. It was a time like no other, when Earth’s mightiest dinosaurs found themselves united against a deadly threat, the K-T extinction event. Super dinos Iron Brontosaurus, Captain Ameritops, Hulkasaurus Rex, and AnkyloTHORus united to form The Avengersaurs. Check them out after the jump.

First things first, what is steampunk?
Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction and speculative fiction, frequently featuring elements of fantasy, that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s.

Simple enough but add super heroes to that mix along with some talented artists and you get a selection of awesome stuff. Check out some great examples sourced from around the web after the jump.
Super Mamika!
I’d like to think that there is a super hero in each of us, lying in wait for the right time to burst out and rescue humanity for evil. 91-year-old Hungarian grandmother Frederika Goldberger showed great courage in World War II when she helped to hide her Jewish friends from a life of forced labour or worse, death in a concentration camp. Under threat of death herself, she had to leave her home town of Budapest and move to France.
A few years ago, Frederika’s grandson and photographer Sasha Goldberger found her in a lonely depressive state and to cheer her up, he suggested that they play dress-up. At first the grandmother was reluctant but as the shoot progressed, Sasha reports that she even started suggesting unusual, comical poses of her own. More uplifting is the fact that she has not shown a hint of depression since then. Sasha titled his series Mamika.

Montygog’s Art-O-Rama
36-year-old cartoonist/illustrator Dave Perillo draws inspiration from the retro stylings from the 50s and 60s. From cartoons and comics to TV and film, Perillo’s pop art character designs are drawn with simple lines and flat colours. He goes under the name of Montygog on DeviantART, have a look at some of his work after the jump.
Invincibility, invisibility, super strength, laser shooting eyes, adamantium skeletons… all so passé, so ordinary, why would I want one of these? I tend to think outside of the box, outside of Stan Lee’s imaginings, which is why when I think of having a super power I leave the usual suspects out of it. One day with the help of science, radiation, the sun’s rays, a meteor shower or the bite of a genetically manipulated bug I hope to have one of these unordinary superpowers. Find out what they are after the jump.
Vintage Super Hero Portraits
You’ve seen super heroes re-imagined as Mr. Men, gender-swapped to freakishly sexy women; you’ve seen them as depressive emos and even as cats.
Now they get a touch of retro care of Los Angeles-based artist Alex Gross who takes vintage portraits and turns them into super hero portraits. The results are grand, have a look at some of them after the jump.
Marvel-lous Cats
Cats are the lifeblood of the Internet. If you liked Joseph Senior’s mashups of Hello Kitty and pop culture icons we posted about earlier, you’re bound to like the #MRVLCATS meme doing the rounds on Twitter. This is the one in which artists illustrate Marvel super heroes as lovable felines. Have a look at some of the Marvel Cats after the jump.
Bam! Kapow! Minimalist Superhero Posters
Veteran Onelargeprawn readers may recall the last time I used “Bam! Kapow!” in a post. It had to with exposed boobies and being fired from work for exposing them. Refresh your memory here, it’s NSFW obviously. This time the phrase may elicit the same kind of reactions albeit from the geekier part of society.
Back in June, I showed you Israeli designer Gidi Vigo as he gave superhero movies the minimalist treatment. It’s a pity that he only made a few posters and given the vast number of superheroes that you and I idolized as children, I expected someone (anyone) to create some more. It turns out Screen Rant decided to save the day with a selection of not one but 30 minimalist posters! See a couple of my favourites after the jump.
