We Review: Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed

The other day I lamented about the lack of arcade racers but November saw no less than three *kart* racing games appear on the circuit. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is certainly the wordiest of the lot.

UK developer Sumo Digital have a track record with creating some of the Outrun games, and recently received a boost to their racing pedigree with the inclusion of staff from the now-defunct game development studios Bizarre Creations and Black Rock Studio. Taking cues from their previous outing in 2010’s Sonic & All-Stars Racing, the developers have added all new transformative elements to their mascot-based kart racer.  Is it a welcome change? Let’s find out.

What Video Game Characters Do While You’re Sleeping

Imagine this likely scenario: The “I just need to get to the next save point” excuse has failed and you’ve had to switch your video game off and go to bed. Have you wondered what some of your favourite video game characters might be doing while you are sleeping? Me neither. But YouTube user slamacow imagines what their nighttime follies would be in this music video. Spoiler: they dance to bad techno music, but Nyan Cat makes an appearance so it’s not all bad.

Amazing Game Art

Deviantart user, Orioto, has put some absolutely incredible art up. Taking inspiration from most of the games we played as kids (and still dream about today, I’m sure), he’s created wallpapers of the likes of Mario, Sonic, and even Donkey Kong.

Man, I really hope some game designers are seeing this. Imagine playing games that look like this. I instantly think of Braid, and its wonderful visuals.

You can download the high resolution versions of these images, and many more, from Orioto’s Deviantart account. When I say “high resolution”, I’m not kidding; That Mario image is 5000px wide!

Thanks Orioto!
