Warhammer 40,000 games have been going since at least the early 1990s, and most of them have had some manner of strategic bent as a nod to their tabletop wargaming roots. The latest game, Warhammer: Dawn of War III, sees a return to the RTS roots of the original Dawn of War, ditching some of the RPG elements of the prior game. Grab your armour and weapons, and let’s get ready to kick some Ork butt. Or Eldar butt if that’s what you prefer.

Valkyria Chronicles was an absolutely beautiful tactical RPG that released on the PS3 back in 2008. It was lauded for the sketchbook-style artwork of the game, as well as its story and characters. Sega decided to, by way of preparing us for the next home console sequel later this year/early next year, release a PS4 version of the original called Valkyria Chronicles Remastered. For those of you who missed it and wondered whether it’s worth buying, read on.
Anyone who has seen or played Fantasy Zone will instantly recognize the insanely cute graphical stylings of an insanely difficult game (one of the few games that belong to a genre called, appropriately, “cute-’em-ups”). It has a long and very checkered history, with ports onto almost a dozen different platforms, including the Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Megadrive, and of course, an appearance in video arcades. The 3D release of this game has now been released on the 3DS, and I get cute to bring this review to you.
We Review: Aliens: Colonial Marines
Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror, Alien may have had a slow start but the sense of dread built up as every minute passed by. I found it foreboding, and terrifying in places. Seven years later, James Cameron’s sequel was much less scary but punchier in the action department. It was where most of the shooting took place. It so happens that shooting things makes good fodder for video games (Ed: Imagine that!), and Sega—with blessings from 20th Century Fox—tasked Gearbox Software (of Borderlands fame) with the fan service. A five-year development cycle later and Aliens: Colonial Marines was hatched. Is this the bug hunt you’ve been waiting for? Or is it a bad egg? My tour of duty continues after the jump.
The other day I lamented about the lack of arcade racers but November saw no less than three *kart* racing games appear on the circuit. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is certainly the wordiest of the lot.
UK developer Sumo Digital have a track record with creating some of the Outrun games, and recently received a boost to their racing pedigree with the inclusion of staff from the now-defunct game development studios Bizarre Creations and Black Rock Studio. Taking cues from their previous outing in 2010’s Sonic & All-Stars Racing, the developers have added all new transformative elements to their mascot-based kart racer. Is it a welcome change? Let’s find out.
