“Clash of the Titans”

Yes another remake, but this time a classic that needed one.

It’s based on the Greek myth of Perseus, the son of Zeus and a mortal. He goes on a legendary journey, to stop Hades from seizing power from Zeus, and unleashing hell on earth. On his journey defeating the Gorgon Medusa and riding a winged horse.

I remember watching the 1981 classic as a kid (still shown on TCM), with Harry Hamlin in the title role, and being amazed at the special effects. The winged horse, the gorgon, the skeleton army….fantastic stuff. Now however it’s dated and the acting is cringe inducing.

Enter Louis Leterrier, the director who helped reboot the Hulk, with his re-imagining of this classic. This time, with Sam “I’m the next action hero” Worthington playing Perseus; Liam Neeson, and Ralph Fiennes are also onboard playing mighty Zeus and Hades respectively. If Louis’ previous films, The Transporter 1 & 2, The Incredible Hulk, are anything to go by he knows how to direct action films. And if the trailer is anything to go by, this is definitely an action film. The big plus for me, it has a great cast and newcomer Worthington has shown he can act while kicking ass.

Clash of the Titans is set for international release on 26 March 2010.

James Cameron’s “Avatar” Trailer

Apparently everyone is talking about Avatar. I obviously missed that memo. I really should fire my non-existent yet big bosomed secretary.

Written and directed by James Cameron (Terminator 2, Aliens, Titanic) Avatar has nothing in common with the animated series, “Avatar: The Last Airbender” – Cameron wrote the script a decade for the Nickelodeon show, and hence retained the right to use the word as his film’s title. After spending almost two full years in post-production, Avatar is supposedly one of the most technically sophisticated movies yet seen.

It sees a paraplegic war veteran (Sam Worthington) who gets shipped out to the planet of Pandora where the meddlesome humans at odds with the planet’s inhabitants, the long-limbed, elven-eared Na’vi race. See the epic trailer below or watch the special effects bonanza in HD at Apple Trailers.

Maybe it’s because I’m not drunk yet, but I feel a little underwhelmed. What do you think of it?
