We Review: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle

Hardcore anime and manga fans will most likely have heard of Hirohiko Araki’s Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, a story set across several generations of the Joestar family, the main character of which is always nicknamed Jojo. The rest of you non-otaku will in likelihood have never heard of it. It obviously doesn’t have the western popularity of, say, Naruto. So it seems odd that Namco Bandai managed to localize All Star Battle and bring it to an audience that, frankly, isn’t too aware of it. Let’s delve in a bit and see if we can solve this mystery.

We Review: Tales of Symphonia Chronicles

Tales of Symphonia was one of the most successful Tales games to ever grace the now-aged Playstation2 and now-defunct GameCube, and it saw a followup, oddly enough, on the Wii with Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. The games were so popular, in fact, that they’ve given rise to books, manga, audio dramas (Japan only, sadly), and four anime films. The two games have been remastered in HD and brought together again for the PS3, now titled Tales of Symphonia Chronicles. Fans of JRPGs would be well advised to join me in this review—I have a few good tales of my own to regale upon you.

We Review: Ratchet & Clank: Nexus

Insomniac Games has treated PlayStation users to the wonderful world of Ratchet & Clank since 2002. A Crack in Time was one of the best in the series in 2009, but since then the destructive duo has had some lacklustre journeys through the co-op universe and the galaxy of tower defense. With Ratchet & Clank: Nexus, have they found their way out of the doldrums, and set their course back into familiar territory?

We Review: Ratchet & Clank Collection

Ratchet & Clank has been one of the Playstation’s most favoured mascots (since the fall of Crash Bandicoot, anyhow), with a series that spans over 11 games and counting, and countless tie-ins and media appearances. Many PS2-era games have been seeing HD remakes for the PS3 (as opposed to simple re-releases), and Ratchet & Clank is the latest in this line.

But has the steady passage of time dulled the experience? Is the HD treatment enough to bring these two classics up to date? Find out after the jump.

We Review: Spider-Man: Edge of Time

Every kid has a favourite super hero. Every adult male still does. While there are many who rate the man of steel from planet Krypton, tons who love the steel-clad Iron Man, and even a few who worship that not so jolly green giant, the incredible Hulk (between me and you… he’s not that incredible), I have always been a massive fan of Spider-Man. There are two things that sold me on the arachnoid homo-sapiens: his constant witty wisecracks, and web-slinging between towering skyscrapers. Unfortunately in Spider-Man: Edge of Time, only one of those was present and in a form that only annoyed me. Continue reading and find out how I unraveled the good and the bad in this web.

We Review: Beat Hazard Ultra (PSN)

Top-down shooters…who DOESN’T love them? Much in the same way that ghosts and pellets are the main dietary source for yellow blobs that only know one sound effect, shoot-’em-up games have been a staple of video gamers since before video gamers were called that. This particular genre been somewhat in decline in recent years, and I’ve become thoroughly sick of Geometry Wars and Super Stardust HD. So it was with pure pleasure and frisson that I picked up Beat Hazard Ultra. Find out just how much of a blast it is, after the hyperspace jump.

We Review: Singstar Afrikaanse Treffers

Singstar is one of those great Playstation institutions, and one of those absolute must-have games for whenever you have—or want—a karaoke party. It’s awesome, then, that Sony have decided that South Africa’s Afrikaans-speaking market is big enough to warrant their own Singstar game: Singstar Afrikaanse Treffers. Find out about my experiences in delving into the world of Afrikaans music after the jump.
