Dutch filmmaker/musician Kamiel Rongen creates the most hallucinatory, meditative, and mesmerizing music videos in a fish bowl using paints and other liquids. Have a look at one of his “audiovisual landscapes” below, entitled Shortcutz. Be sure to watch it in full screen mode.

Simply put, black holes suck. Thankfully, Fabian Oefner’s Black Hole project is attractive and far from sucky.
Inspired by the drippy paint style of Jackson Pollock, the Swiss photographer and artist decided to investigate the effect of centrifugal force on paint. He dripped coloured shades of acrylic paint onto a metal rod that was connected to a drill. When the drill was switched on, the paint whirled away from the rod, and Oefner’s camera flashed at 1/40000 of a second, capturing the images of the paint in motion. If your Monday needed a splash of colour, you might like this video. Gavin Free and Daniel Gruchy, the slow-mo guys, put squibs in nail polish bottles filled with paint and set up a Phantom v1610 ultra high speed camera to capture the explosions of colour. Have a look at paint exploding at 15,000 frames a second, or at 600 times slower than our human vision.

If there is anything we have learned from the likes of Nuit Blanche, Alexandre Farto, and Alan Sailer, it is that explosions can looks very beautiful. Fashion photographer Nick Knight hammers the point home in a series of photos that he took in 2005. What look like colourful abstract flowers are in fact paint explosions.

We’ve seen our share of superhero art be it re-imaginings of them as dinosaurs, Mr. Men, or even cats. In a similar theme to the work of Meggs, French web designer Arian Noveir creates more abstract portraits of famous superheroes. In his series of paint splattered portraits (not actual paint, they’re made on the computer), Noveir seems to bring out the chaos and turmoil within these characters.

We quite like the beautiful shots that people are able to take using macro and high-speed photography. You might remember our post on Miroslaw Swietek’s dew-covered insects and fotoopa’s high speed water figures.
Like the photo grandpa, a biochemist-turned-photographer by the name of Linden Gledhill also dabbles in high-speed photography and makes paint dance to her tune. She uses water-based paint and photographs them as they respond to sound emanating from a set of speakers. The resulting sculptures are quite crazy-cool. Check out her work after the jump.
