Kirby: Triple Deluxe had a few small mini-games built into it, one of which was Dedede’s Drum Dash, a rhythm platform mini game that featured the spheniscidaean monarch. The mini-game has a new release as a standalone, slightly expanded version. I clatter across the kettles, traipse up the tomtoms, and sidle around the snares to review this game.
Legend of Zelda fans will already know, but Majora’s Mask for 3DS is a remake of a Nintendo 64 game of the same name. It’s the direct sequel to Ocarina of Time, and has always been one of the most beloved games in the series for its more adult themes and concepts. Does this remake capture the essence of the old game, while bringing something new? I take a trip through time to find out.
Console releases are few and far between, so we don’t often get a chance to review a whole machine. The New 3DS a mid-cycle re-releases of the original 3DS, much in the same way that the DS Lite and DSi were mid-cycle re-releases of the original Nintendo DS (or the Gameboy Micro a re-release of the Gameboy Advance. Or the Gameboy Pocket a re-release of the original Gameboy). I got the chance to play around with the new features of the New 3DS. Let’s find out what I discover.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is a spin-off game from Super Mario 3D World. The eponymous Captain Toad and his faithful companion, Toadette, are out seeking treasure, and it’s your job to help them get it. What makes the game different from your standard platformer is that Captain Toad cannot jump, and he’s not very fast either. I help the Captain of the Toad Brigade on his adventure, and try to view the world from a different angle to review this game.
Right, hands up those of you who’ve never heard of Tetris.Nobody? Good! Because there’s a new Tetris game on the loose on the 3DS called Tetris Ultimate, and we’re going to drop tetrominoes like the bombing of [insert random place] until this review is done.
Picross (“Picture Crossword”) is a series of logic puzzle games (nonograms) on Nintendo’s DS family of consoles, and it can thought of as an agglomeration of paint-by-numbers, Sudoku, crosswords, and good old Numberwang. You’re presented with a grid with numbers along the top and side, and using the numbers as clues, you fill the grid in to reveal a pixel picture. It sounds simple, but it can get ridiculously difficult in the later stages. Picross e5 is the latest 3DS download version of the game, and has 150 new puzzles, and includes all the modes of play from prior games. I try to fill in the blanks to bring you this review.
Paper Monsters Recut is a Wii U port of an iOS sidescrolling platformer, and features cute papercraft scenery and critters. It certainly looks deceptively cute. Let’s grab our markers, construction paper, and glitter glue, and see what we can make of this game.
A month or so ago, we reviewed the new Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. This time around, we have the Wii U version of the game, which has a lot of features above the 3DS version, including high definition graphics and massive arenas. Oh, and Amiibo support. I try my Master hand at all of these, and fought the good fight to bring you this review.
Tengami is a game which pretends to be a Japanese pop-up book. You turn pages, slide the paper bits, and solve puzzles in this game. Let’s see what kind of story it wants to tell.
Since Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire has already shipped 7.7 million units as of the writing of this review, I think you can say it’s a pretty foregone conclusion as to what the outcome of this review is going to be (by comparison, the original Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire sold a total of 14 million units over its entire lifespan). Still, the natural order of things must hold, and I’m going to tell you exactly why you should be Catching Them All once more.
