Oh, Bother! Giant Hamburger Presents “ALIEN VS POOH”

Something is afoot in the Hundred Acre Wood as Winne the Pooh happens upon a honey pot that is not what it seems and experiences what could be the worst indigestion he has ever had.

In ALIEN VS POOH, webcomic artist Giant Hamburger presents a dark and disturbingly cute story of the Hundred Acre Wood residents as they deal with a bothersome invader.

See  twisted tale at Godxilliary. It’s a little slow to load so be patient, it’s likely the best thing you’ll read today.

Major Lazer: Halo

We have featured Major Lazer on the blog before, and from the number of comments (a whole two!) it seems the Jamaican commando isn’t exactly popular. Would it help to know that the poor chap lost an arm in the secret Zombie War of 1984?

In any case, Diplo and Switch are back, and have teamed up with Jamaican dancehall rapper Elephant Man to cover Beyonce’s Grammy-winning ballad, Halo. It’s really well done, I like it. Give it a listen below or download it and let us know what you think.

Wu Tang vs The Beatles

British music producer Tom Caruana at Tea Sea Records has combined a cappella tracks from Wu Tang and samples from The Beatles songs into an epic mashup album entitled Enter The Magical Mystery Chambers.

I’m not sure how legal this is, but hell, it’s Friday, so we can throw caution to the fokken wind. Download the remix album for free at http://wutangvsthebeatles.bandcamp.com http://www.teasearecords.net/wuvsbeatles.cfm – you’ll need to register on the site (it’s free to join) before getting a link to the album, which is around 190 160 MB. I’ll get this from home, but if you’ve used your work bandwidth to get a hold of it, let us know what it’s like.

The Charleston Style / Daft Punk Medley

If you’re like me and suffer the Sunday blues, then this mashup might bring a little smile to your face. Two dancers, Al Minns and Leon James, demonstrate a popular 1920s dance, the Charleston, to the tune of Daft Punk’s hit “Around the world”. Check it out.

Blue Eyes Meets Bed Stuy

Frank Sinatra and Notorious B.I.G. together would seem like an unlikely duo considering their styles of music but DJ Cappel and Smitty decided to blend Sinatra’s blues with Big Poppa’s rhymes. The mashups were bundled together into the album aptly titled “Blue Eyes Meets Bed Stuy.”

Here’s a couple of tracks taken off the album.

Hypnotize / Little Green Apples

Juicy / New York, New York

10 Crack Commandments / Fools Rush In

What did you think – did you find this quite awesome or a bit of a perversion? Or were you totally indifferent? Drop us a comment.

Han Solo, P.I.

When I was growing up I wanted to be a private dick – by dick I mean a detective and not a rent boy or someone called Richard. Magnum, P.I. was a role model for me – he lived in a fancy house, drove a Ferrari 308 GTS, had unlimited supplies of beer, and always got the ladies. I dreamed of living a life like but minus the bushy moustache and overflowing chest hair that Magnum had – that was just nasty. But I digress (I seem to do a lot of that don’t I?)

Han Solo, P.I. is another fan-made Star Wars TV intro mashup of the Magnum, P.I. main title sequence but with Harrison Ford as Han Solo. Check it out.

This mashup is pretty remarkable in how closely it follows the original. Watch the side-by-side comparison below.

Mega-Mashup: Kutiman Remixes YouTube

This is quite amazing. Incredible really. Israeli funk musician and producer, Kutiman, has collected dozens and dozens of unrelated sounds from YouTube clips and has masterfully mixed them together. The 7-track album Thru-You is the result of his labours.

Watch the slick mega-mashups at Thru-You – via Buzzfeed.

Edit (March 5th): The overwhelming response resulted in site running out of bandwidth. It’s down temporarily. In the meantime, the videos are on YouTube.

Gangstagrass: A Bluegrass/Hip Hop Mashup

Proudly showing you how much I pay attention to music news, I bring you news from 2007.  A singer/songwriter/producer called Rench created a mashup album of bluegrass and hip-hop and called it Gangstagrass. The album includes 22 tracks that mashes samples of the bluegrass banjo, dobro, fiddle, and mandolin with the lyrics of relatively unknown hip hop emcees. It’s a free download and available at Gangstagrass.com.

If you download it and it turns out good, then please let me know. I’d hate to waste my pitiful Internet cap on doo-doo.
