Who Let The Dogs Out 3: Return to Paradise

If you follow us on Twitter and visit the blog occasionally, you may know of our two puppies – Mina the fox terrier terrorist and Panya our whippet of destruction. When they’re not lounging about at home chewing on all of my stuff, we like to take them for walkies. It’s usually up the mountain close to where we live, but for treats, they get to run amok on the beach.

Yesterday was such a great day so we got up early (9:00am) and headed out to Sunset Beach in Milnerton. You might think this déjà vu – we have been to that very beach in Who Let The Dog Out #1. In episode 2, they escaped to Arniston, and led lives of “baie mooi honde”. Now, in episode 3, they return to paradise to frolic and pester little children. We had our camera on hand and snapped a couple of photos to share with you. Find them after the jump.

Who Let The Dogs Out?

Aside from our screen printing escapade and attempt at baking, I know we haven’t posted any personal stuff on the blog but it’s a lazy Sunday evening and I’m sitting here in my favourite holey underpants so it’s a good a time as any.

We try to take our puppies, Mina (Big Min is her gangsta name) and Panya (Lil’ Pun) for walks as regularly as possible, but we’ve been a little bad this week. They like walking on the mountain and scampering around in Tokai forest, but they absolutely love the beach – there’s so much seaweed and crab shells to eat and throw up later, charming I know.

Earlier this morning we bundled the puppies into the car and headed off to Sunset Beach for a little walk. Two hours later, after chasing balls, meeting everyone on the beach (Panya is such an attention-seeker), and with bellies full of sand, the tired mutts were home. We took some happy snaps of the walkabout and thought we’d share them with you. Find them after the jump. Panya is the grey one.

Rad Fabrics from Shine Shine

Unlike some people I don’t know nor have ever met, I don’t use the word rad very often. BUT today I’ve found fabric designs that totally…rad. I was surfing the Elle Decoration site (as one does), and came across some fantastic fabric designs by Tracy Rushmere’s label Shine Shine. From Obama to Rosemary’s junk in the trunk, to Madonna (not the muscular singer), the designs are colourful and creative, like me I hear you say? You’re too kind ;-)

See some of the designs below.

The fabrics are available in cotton, oilcloth and upholstery linen, and Tracy makes cushions, tees, handbags, and laptop sleeves from them. Based in Cape Town, check them out at www.shineshine.co.za.

Win Death Head Tees From a store!

Note: This competition has ended.

It’s been a while since our last t-shirt compo, but I’m glad to say we’re back with yet another wicked giveaway. This time it’s from our friends at the super-cool lifestyle store, a store. Born in 2004 in Cape Town, a store stocks a great selection of clothing, accessories, books, and music from local and internationally known brands.

They love products, they love brands, they love shopping. And we love giving funky stuff away, so it was just a matter of time before Onelargeprawn and a store got together. Anyways enough of this foreplay, let’s get down to the good stuff. We’ve got TWO Death Head t-shirts to give away to our loyal readers. If you’re picked as a winner you’ll have a choice of colour – BLACK or TEAL.

To stand a chance of winning this tee, send the answer to the following question to our competition mail box – win@onelargeprawn.co.za.

Question: Who are the three bad guys that make up the Death head design?

Hint: Head to www.astoreisgood.com and do some detective work. May the force be with you ;-)

This competition runs from September 4th to midnight September 12th 2009 and is only open to South African residents. Terms and conditions apply.

A massive shout out to our sponsor for donating the prizes. If you’d like to be exposed to a whole bunch of new good shit from a store, sign up for their newsletter. You can follow them on Twitter as well.

Win T-Shirts from Mingo Lamberti!

Note: This competition has ended.

It’s been a week since our last giveaway and I’ve already got the DTs. Lucky for me and you, Mingo Lamberti has offered some of their super-cool merch for us to give away.

Named after his grandfather, a good man who believed in doing a good job at whatever he did, Brad Hodgskiss created t-shirt collective Mingo Lamberti to bring those same principles into the t-shirts and their designs. There have been six ranges thus far – each design gets printed 200 times and made available at independent clothing stores around Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban.

We’ve got not one, not two, but THREE Mingo Lamberti tees to give away this week, and if you’re picked as a winner you’ll be able to choose your tee from two specific ranges.

The gentleman can select any design from the Electric range.

And the ladies can take a pick from these three designs in the Nature range.

Win T-shirts from 2BOP!

NOTE: This competition has ended.

Time flies like an arrow (and fruit flies like a banana). We’re already into week 3 of our month-long t-shirt giveaway and this time you stand a chance of winning cool gaming-related sweaters from 2BOP!

2BOP draws inspiration primarily from games that were popular in South Africa at corner shops and arcades in the 80’s and early 90’s. Disadvantaged areas during apartheid South Africa had little to offer in terms of exposure to cutting edge international design or computer technology but the bootleg arcade games at the corner shop were a window into what was happening in the outside world.

And we’ve got two rad sweatshirts to give away to our readers. Check them out below:

Lending itself to emerging as well as established MCs, producers, b-boys, turntablists, and skate boarders from all corners of Mzansi, Butan Wear firmly believe that the ideologies of street culture must be carried forward as it develops and the brand alongside it.

And we’ve got two cool Butan Wear tees to give away to our readers – Wild Jane for the ladies and Fight the Power for the gents.

Another Cape Town Bush Fire!

Just a day after the Vortex fire in Wellington, Cape Town is on fire yet again. Eyewitness News Reports reports that an ambulance has crashed into wall on Ou Kaapse Weg and has resulted in a bush fire on the mountain slopes of Muizenberg.

Firefighters tried to extinguish the blaze which is near the Steenberg turnoff on Ou Kaapse Weg.

Cape Town fire services Sharon Bosch said details of the accident were unclear but the fire command centres were alerted to the bush fire.

So take care if you’re driving out past that area, and if you have a camera handy and snapped some photos, be sure to let us know.

Look! It’s The Cape Town Smiley

We’re not talking about boiling a goat’s head. It’s way too early in the morning for that. No, this is the other kind of smiley. Spotted in Cape Town by Flickr user eskom_power was this smiley face below a fire-ravaged section of Table Mountain. I’m told it is not photoshopped, someone used black bags to add the eyes and smile to a roughly-shaped circle that was left behind by the blaze. Click to see bigger.
