Relais & Châteaux Africa commissioned a DJI Phantom 2 quadcopter to capture some of the majestic scenery and wildlife that call Africa its home. Have a look at the wonderful drone’s-eye views of Cape Town’s picturesque coastlines, the Devil’s Pool at Victoria Falls, and herds of wandering elephant on the plains of northern Botswana. Rollin’ Safari

Life on the African plains can be treacherous, but the students at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in Germany take a light-hearted look at it in their trailers for an upcoming animation and visual effects conference.

In each of the animated shorts for Rollin’ Safari, we see animals like flamingos and zebras in their natural habitat when they’re set upon by predators. But things don’t go according to plan due to some hilarious changes to their physical characteristics. I’d rather not spoil it for you so have a look at the four animated shorts after the jump.

Mecha-Zoo: Animal Transformers by Brice

I met freelance illustrator Brice Reignier at a party recently and we had a fabulous chat about TV and comics over several beers, well it was more him talking and me avidly listening and noting things down in Astrid Tasks (very nerdy of me I know).

It was also then when I found out that Brice had a blog/portfolio entitled Drawn Out and it didn’t take me long at all to find something I thoroughly loved – in his series of illustrations entitled Mecha-Zoo, Brice re-imagines several African wild animals in beautiful mechanized forms. He explained it in far more eloquent terms, sadly I was a too “refreshed” by then and forgot, sorry. I will let his images speak for me – have a look at his animal transformers after the jump.

Blu-ray Review: Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa

In 2005, you followed the antics of an endearing bunch of New York City zoo animals who journeyed from captivity from to the jungles of Madagascar. Now roll on the sequel, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, where it is time for Alex the lion (voiced by Ben Stiller), Marty the zebra (Chris Rock), Melman the giraffe (David Schwimmer), and Gloria the hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith) to leave Madagascar and head back home to New York. The self-engrossed lemur King Julien XIII (Sacha Baron Cohen) and trusted advisor Maurice (Cedric the Entertainer) tag along as well. They’ll be flying aboard the rickety Air Penguin airline, where safety comes last. Piloted by always entertaining Skipper (Tom McGrath) and his fellow penguins, the airplane experiences trouble mid-flight, and crash-lands in the wilds of Africa.
