Oh, Bother! Giant Hamburger Presents “ALIEN VS POOH”

Something is afoot in the Hundred Acre Wood as Winne the Pooh happens upon a honey pot that is not what it seems and experiences what could be the worst indigestion he has ever had.

In ALIEN VS POOH, webcomic artist Giant Hamburger presents a dark and disturbingly cute story of the Hundred Acre Wood residents as they deal with a bothersome invader.

See  twisted tale at Godxilliary. It’s a little slow to load so be patient, it’s likely the best thing you’ll read today.

Zoom and Enhance: Incredibly Close-up Insect Images

Word around the scientific cooler is that the Scanning Electron Microscope (or SEM) can magnify images 250 times better than a light microscope. The expensive bit of kit valued up to 500,000 pounds blasts materials with a high-energy beam of electrons and the messages sent back build up a super-detailed image.

Retired scientific photographer Steve Gschmeissner gets to play with this high-tech toy and has produced some amazing close-up images of insects. Check out some of his shots after the jump.

Disco, Star Wars, and Sea Chicken!

Disco, Star Wars, and sea chicken. It’s an unlikely combination to the majority us, but certainly not to the Japanese, who as we know are clinically insane. In this 1978 spot for Hagoromo, the Star Wars posse do a little dance to shill what I assume to be canned tuna fish. It’s quite odd. See it below.

Synesthesia: A Bizarre Short by Terri Timely

Colour me confused. From the minds of Ian Kibbey and Corey Creasey under the moniker Terri Timely, comes a rather bizarre short film, Synesthesia.

According to Wikipedia, synesthesia is a “neurologically-based condition in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway.” and in the short, this concept is visualized through a scene of a family going about their daily lives. The schoolboys listen to their food whilst his mother prepares a tasty meal by cutting up a recipe and baking it in the oven, and the father relaxes by watching some of his favourite music. Things really getting interesting when the speakers start shooting out cats…

Well, what did you think? Drop us a comment.

Goon Tower: The Tallest Tower on the Internet

Whilst the Burj Khalifa may be the tallest man-made structure ever built (828 m), have the most floors (160), and house the world’s fastest elevators (64 km/h), it pales in comparison to the sheer awesomeness that is Goon Tower, the world’s tallest pixel art tower on the Internet.

A collaborative project by the Something Awful Forums from what seems like 2007, the Goon Tower is the world’s largest online building complete with underground levels and hell. Each of the tower’s 400+ storeys was created by a forum member. Including games, movies, music, TV, and a whole lot of cultural references that I just don’t get, the Goon Tower is like a wacky (and often murderous) journey through pop culture.

To see the structure, head to the Goon Tower.

The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon

“It will kill you. Even if it takes the rest of your life.” Director Richard Gale’s comedy/horror short film has a title that is even longer than the tag line it describes.

“The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon” tells the story of everyday man Jack Cucchiaio is who is being stalked by the most relentless murderer of all time. The heinous creature intends on bashing Jack to death…with a spoon!

See the epic 10-minute trailer below or watch it in HD on YouTube – it’s a scream ;-)

Gale’s trailer has been viewed over 1.5 million times and the extended cut of the movie will soon be available on DVD. More info on that at www.richard-gale.com.

The Twisted, Violent Worlds of Charlie Immer

This is beautifully gross. Flights through other worlds can often be whimsical, but Charlie Immer is tired of that stereotype. The worlds created by this artist and illustrator from New York are harrowingly dangerous, where the creatures in the scenes are about to meet their end in a most brutal and gory way. Danger lurks around every corner, a cautionary tale indeed.

Amazing Art by Aesthetic Apparatus

Some months, we went to a screen printing workshop and had a fantastic time. Since then I have been yearning to turn a room in our basement into a workshop. Trouble is, the room is filled to the brim with the crap that can’t fit in the house above it. Also, it’s inhabited by the bane of my existence – FLEAS. Tonnes of fleas. I hate them, in a “fuck off and die” kind of way.

Anyhoo (people still say anyhoo right?), if the workshop became a reality, I wondered what kinds of unoriginal, mindless content I would likely produce. I need guidance and inspiration, and who better to get that from than screen printing gurus Aesthetic Apparatus.

Formed by beer-loving designers Dan Ibarra and Michael Byzewski, Aesthetic Apparatus has been creating the most awesome hand-printed concert posters and art prints since 1999. But don’t just believe me – have a look at a small selection after the jump.

Gimme Your Cash! A Collection of Bank Robbery Notes

Aside from winning the lottery and nicking a few gold bars from the national reserve, robbing a bank is definitely part of my get-rich-quick scheme. One of the stumbling blocks comes in handing over the ultimatum to my victims – having seen so may witty deliveries in the movies, I’m afraid I won’t be as powerful – what if I get my tenses wrong? Or put the emphasis on the wrong syllable? Heaven forbid I dish out the order in the squeaky voice that I talk to the cats with. I should probably stick to writing a demand note…

Bank Notes 365 seeks to capture the notes used in actual bank robberies. From the verbose to the succinct, from the geniuses that got away to the fools who got caught, each note is accompanied by data related to that robbery. Have a look at some of them after the jump.
