The Rockingest Grannies You’ll see Today

Eurovision tends to bring out some of the …oddest…acts you’ll ever see. And sometimes, some of the most memorable. So here’s a video of a troupe of Russian grannies—the Buranovskiye Babushki (Burano Grannies)—with their Eurovision 2012 entry, Party for Everybody. If your feet aren’t tapping by the end of the song, then I fear you have no soul. You might want to have that looked at by a good (witch) doctor.

Fresh Guacamole!

Written and directed by the artist known as PES, Fresh Guacamole is a stop-motion short film that shows how to create the tasty Mexican dip using everyday objects like grenades, golf balls, and light bulbs. There are visual puns aplenty in this humorous and creative cooking clip.

PES also shows how to cook pasta sauce in Western Spaghetti. See that short after the jump.

Mercedes Benz Create the Invisible Car

So we don’t usually post big brands here, but this is one marketing campaign that has captured our attention. Mercedes Benz is developing a new range of hydrogen-powered cars. Their claim is that the car will produce zero emissions, thus making it invisible to the environment.

As a part of their campaign they have covered one side of the new car in LED lights and placed a Canon EOS 5D Mark II on the other. This recorded footage live and transmitted it onto the LEDs. The effect: an invisible car. They drove the vehicle around Germany and caught the reaction of consumers. Needless to say, it is very impressive!

We won’t be seeing one of these cars in the near future as the costs will be prohibitive to most consumers. It is likely only to be put into production by 2015.

Fillion and Daly Take Their Jobs Seriously

When you have as much spare time as I do these days, you tend to spend a lot of it either watching television or roaming Youtube. Most of the time it’s for new teasers of upcoming movies and nonsensical crud that’s posted by the world. Just when I was about to log off and cry myself to sleep, I found a webisode that put a smile on my face. It’s from The Daly Show.

The Daly Show, not to be confused with Jon Stewart’s “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central, stars Tim Daly (Wings, Diner) and his son Sam Daly. It’s essentially a parody of the life of Tim and Sam and the adventures they have.

Tim is also well known for his voice work as Clark Kent/Superman for DC Comics’ animated films and previous TV shows. This particular webisode uses this fact as the basis for its story and stars, in my opinion, the most underused talent of Nathan Fillion (Firefly, Castle). Nathan, as most fans of the WB animated films know, is the voice of Green Lantern. He is also, most importantly, keeping the Lantern dignified after Ryan Reynolds’ debacle with it. The short also stars Michael Rosenbaum whom we all remember as Lex Luthor in the Smallville series, but does the voice of The Flash along with Daly and Fillion in the Justice League.

I’m not going to write a brief plot as it would spoil it for you, but give it a watch and let us know what you think.

The Simpsons’ “Game of Thrones” Intro

Winter is coming. Literally. It’s getting a tad colder in the southern hemisphere as citizens prepare for the biting cold that is on the way. They’re also waiting for the second season of Game of Thrones to begin, and in tribute to the medieval show, The Simpsons transform their town of Springfield into Westeros, complete with a despotic king as he watches over the kingdom from Burns Landing. Check out The Simpsons’ “Game of Thrones” couch gag below.

Anime Ping Pong

It’s a common myth that all Asians know kung fu. Freddie Wong’s Kung Fooled certainly reminds us of that. This is also true for the game of table tennis, however when a friendly game between two Asians becomes heated, it quickly turns into a match of epic proportions. This is Ping Pong.

Boobies, Kittens, and the Cancan

Are you feeling down and in dire need of cheer? If your idea of a pick-me-up is watching a YouTube video that mashes together pictures of breasts in various states of undress with images of cute kittens and set to the tune of the French cancan, then you’ve come to the right place. Here is the aptly titled BOOBIES & KITTENS [NSFW].

The City of Samba in Tilt-Shift

Brazil isn’t exactly the safest place in the world. According to statistics in 2010 it’s firlmy in the top 20 countries by intentional homicide rate. It has a rate of 25 (that is 25 homicides per 100,000 people). Our fair country of South Africa ranks slightly higher with a rate 32 but who’s counting right?

In any case, with the bad there’s always some good. In 2011, musician/film director Jarbas Agnelli and Australian photographer Keith Loutit (of Bathtub IV fame) were in Rio de Janeiro for the fabulous Carnaval party and captured the sights during the days and the nights. They combine the art of tilt-shift and time-lapse to create The City of Samba. Check out the very festive video below.

Amazing L.E.D. Snowboarder Lights up Darkness

Arty fashion photographer and filmmaker Jacob Sutton takes to the French Alps to shoot snowboarder William Hughes as he carves his way through the snow. Hughes wears a custom-built L.E.D.-covered suit and illuminates the surroundings as he passes by, like a “lone character made of light surfing through darkness”.

Have a look at Sutton’s Glowing Man below.
