You might recall an earlier post on the Simpsonized characters from the hit TV show, LOST. Springfield Punx is an on-going side project of artist Dean Fraser and it’s been a while since we’ve taken a look at his Simpsonized versions of popular characters from comics, video games, TV, and film. Have a look at Fraser’s newest creations after the jump.

This is altogether surreal and weirdly delightful. Green Porno is a series of short films penned by and staring actress Isabella Rossellini. These educational videos take a look at the reproductive habits of various insects and marine animals, and whether she is getting her head eaten off as a praying mantis or has a massive whale erection, Rossellini plays all the characters with charm and wit.
Green Porno is scientifically accurate yet so cheeky and silly. Have a look at two of our favourite episodes below. They might be NSFW on the account of simulated sex and heavy breathing.

The LOST Dharma Stations
The LOST finale was aired last night, and I’ve been too frightened to go anywhere on the Internet for fear of spoilers. Ironically I stumbled upon FUCK YEAH LOST! a Tumblr site dedicated to the series. It was a Ronal-DOH! moment in soccer terms but I quickly skipped to page two, and then to page three where I found another awesome bit of LOST-inspired artwork.
Neil Richards, a web designer by day (and everything else the rest of the time) has created a fantastic set of posters representing each research laboratory built by the DHARMA Initiative during their time on the Island. Have a look at his LOST Dharma Stations set after the jump.
Super Cool Soccer Ads

I can’t say I’m a big fan of soccer. I remember having to play it during the physical ed classes in school. I use the word “play” loosely – I mainly sat on the bench and occasionally stepped out onto the pitch to kick a ball that wandered into my vicinity. If there ever was a position for what I did, it would be “left right out”.
With less than three weeks to go before the start of the 2010 soccer world cup here in South Africa, I found this great commercial to get me into the mood for footy. It’s packed with football royalty with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba, Patrice Evra, Wayne Rooney, and a certain donut-eating, beer-drinking cartoon character. Check out Nike: Write The Future below.

Coming up after the jump, another Nike ad directed by the very cool Guy Ritchie and Powerade’s never-ending game.
Wonderfully Retro LOST Posters
You may recall Albert Exergian’s minimal poster for the hit TV series, LOST. If you liked that, then you might enjoy the silk-screened posters by designer Ty Mattson.
Earlier on this year Mattson, a huge fan of the series, sat down to design an invite to a season six premiere party at his house, and ended up creating eight different LOST posters. From enigmatic John Locke to the quintessential eye scenes, his posters are wonderfully retro. See them out after the jump.

The creation of messieurs Lindelof, Abrams, and Lieber will soon come to its end. Lost will conclude in its sixth season this year, with the 121st episode being aired on May 23rd. Some couldn’t careless whilst others will be mourning it like the death of a dear friend. Some of our readers gave their opinions in the Long Lost Tarots Cards post. However you feel about the show, it has become very much a part of popular culture, with a veritable army of devoted fans.
Aside from its title screen, Lost doesn’t feature any opening credits and it is these fans who pay tribute to their favourite show by creating alternate opening credit sequences. Have a look at some of their interpretations after the jump, beware they may contain spoilers.

Here’s a little South African flavour for our international readers who visit often but rarely leave any comments. It hurts us on our studio (if you missed that reference, see here – it’s at the 49-second mark).
In the past, South African fast food chain Chicken Licken ran a series of entertaining funk-themed TV ads for their brand of “soul food”. Our friends over at 10and5 spotted a new set of ads that take the brand in a hilarious new direction. Our favourite ad involves a play on one of South Africa’s major pastimes, mispronunciation. In it, an affable chap comes homes to his housemates after picking up a delicious “beggar”.
Check out a few more Chicken Licken ads after the jump.

If you have DSTV, you may have noticed the nightly comedy festival on BBC Entertainment (channel 120). There has been a great lineup of comedians thus far, notably the quick-thinking Dara Ó Briain who I thought was most excellent. I missed it last night on account of going to quiz night at a pub in town. The toilets smelled of poo and peaches and cream, and the team next to us used Google to come second, so overall it wasn’t such a great night.
My mate and passive-smoking partner, Fayyaad, told me about one of the sketches he saw last night. He was laughing so hard that he could barely speak so my keen intellect told me this should be worth a watch – it was, sidesplittingly so. It’s a sketch by Welsh comic Rhod Gilbert on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow. Gilbert tells the story of the time he flew to Ireland and lost a handle on things when his luggage didn’t arrive in the same state that he remembered. Check it out below.
The comedy festival carries on until May 14th so if you’re in need of a good laugh, see the schedule on the BBC Entertainment website.
[thanks again, Fayyaad]

We’ve covered a few great mashups in the past and we may have stuck Internet gold yet again. YouTuber beckspacering has mashed together the opening theme music of one of TV’s most resourceful heroes and clips of film’s most laid-back slacker. For your viewing pleasure here is the MacGyver/Big Lebowski mashup, The DudeGyver.
Brilliant stuff. But is it the ultimate mashup? Maybe not – my money’s still on Han Solo, P.I. although Lebowski, P.I. is growing on me.

Graphic designer Alex Griendling hails from Kentucky and must like me, be pretty much obsessed by the all -consuming and awful brilliance that is LOST.
Alex has artfully created a set of Tarot cards that represents some of the main characters and of course the island. Each card is beautifully and darkly designed in a smoke and mirrors sort of way, and symbolizes each character’s essence and being. For those who aren’t sure what tarot cards have to do with anything, tarot cards were originally used for playing innocent card games, but over the centuries have taken on a more esoteric and mystical function and are now used to tell fortunes. You can read all about traditional tarot decks and their uses here. As far as what tarot cards have to do with LOST, your guess is as good as mine, but none-the-less they seem to fit perfectly with the freakishly weird mysticism and twisted ideology that envelops possibly the best TV show ever made.
If you haven’t watched a lick of LOST, then (I feel sorry for you LOSER) tread carefully as there may be spoilers. See the full list of LOST tarot cards after the jump.
