The Young Turks

If you’re not catching The Young Turks vlogs, you’re missing out.

The Young Turks is a liberal radio and Internet talk show airing on Sirius Satellite Radio. The name is an allusion to the Young Turk reform movement in the late Ottoman Empire (and the general term, derived from this usage, referring to new progressive movements within older organizations), playing on host Cenk Uygur’s Turkish origins. The Young Turks claims to be the first Internet TV news show. Video of the show is streamed daily on their website and available as a podcast. The show offers exclusive, Internet-only video content via their YouTube channel. The Young Turks offers a paid members-only Postgame Show, an uncensored, Internet-only wrap-up show.

I have to get my daily dose of this show and really enjoy the no BS approach to topics ranging from politics, celeb news, and general crazy occurences in America like this one. A pair of lesbian teachers, from Brooklyn, get caught by the janitor while making out naked in a classroom during assembly. You can’t make stuff like this up.

Tiger in the rough

It’s nothing new really. Professional athlete reaches the top his/her, mostly his,  game and decides it’s time to cut loose. And well Tiger Woods did just that. Why did we think he was infallible is beyond me and the media circus going bananas over it is also a bit crazy. Maybe it’s because he was so squeaky clean and did everything right was the problem, either way I’m loving it and cannot get enough of the Tiger jokes.

You know ever since the news broke on Tiger’s indiscretions, I knew it was going to be good material for stand-up comics everywhere. And SNL has never disappointed.  Check out Kenan Thompson as Tiger.

ZA NEWS: Changing The Face of South African News

Popular South African cartoonist Zapiro is tired of just being in the news, and is now making the news. Debuting on October 6th and delivered exclusively on the Internet, ZA NEWS takes a satirical look at South African politics and the celebrities that make the magic happen.

The “news” segments are acted out by rubber puppets who are remarkably similar to the politicians they are parodying. Each show is around five to seven minutes long, and there is wrap-up show on Saturday. Have a look at the inaugural episode which features President Jacob Zuma, Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, and always-entertaining Julius Malema, who this time can’t seem to find the word Internet in his dictionary.

According to Hayibo.com the SABC are less than thrilled about the matter as they already have a satire show that broadcasts daily, it’s called The News ;-)

Cartoon Sexy: Marge Simpson poses for Playboy

To celebrate the 20th season of the Simpsons, devoted wife, loving mother and island of calm in a family-sized crazy storm, Marge Simpson is about to do something no cartoon character has ever done. The sweet, husky-voiced lady with her signature towering blue hairdo will be gracing the cover of Playboy magazine. Marge will also appear in her own spread where her modesty will be tastefully preserved by some cartoon lingerie. I don’t know about you, but I think it’s cool. Sure Marge is a mother, and a house wife, but who says those things make a woman unsexy?

Playboy CEO Scott Flanders, has said that he is hoping that featuring Marge will attract younger readers (those in their 20s) to the magazine. Only time will tell if this works. See the cover after the jump.

Obama: Nobel Peace Prize winner

Sometime ago (I know it’s been “sometime” since I posted), I posted an opinion piece on South Africa denying the Dalai Lama a visa, and I was given a jolly good smack down by some arb. Anyway, after that incident I promised to stay away from politics and all that jazz, and I just know that my opinion on this matter should I post it,  will result in floods of comments that will make me feel…well kak to be honest. So this is just straight forward news. Barack Obama, president of the USA has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples” in particular, his outreach to the Muslim world and attempts to curb nuclear proliferation. ORLY?

As you see, I’m a chicken and not in the mood to stick my neck out but what do y’all think?
