Ice Cube’s “Good Day” in Pictures

Some say that a good day is any day that you’re alive, but rapper Ice Cube was a little more specific on the matter in 1993. In this hour-by-hour illustration, digital artist Fernando Reza visualises that glorious day in south central Los Angeles when Ice Cube had a pork-free breakfast, won at dominoes, got complimented on his sexual prowess. That day he didn’t even have to use his AK. Check out the illustration and listen along to the song after the jump.

Mario Paint Composer Cover of “Get Lucky” Hits all the Right Notes

Mario Paint on the SNES featured a music maker that allowed gamers to create their own melodies. Mario Paint Composer is the Windows (and Mac) version of that music maker, and in the right hands is capable of creating some wonderful covers.

Pianist Adam Shin skilfully arranged different elements in the Mario Paint Composer timeline to create an instrumental cover of Daft Punk’s funky track, Get Lucky. Shin uses hearts for the bass, mushrooms for the bass drums, aeroplanes for the guitar effects, and the Game Boy sound to stand in for the vocals. Have a listen to his chiptune rendering of Get Lucky below.

Marquese Scott Dances to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”

You may remember Marquese “Nonstop” Scott from his wibbly wobbly dance routine set to Pumped Up Kicks.

In his latest video, the king of the dubstep dance pays tribute to the late king of pop. Watch as Scott pops, locks, and contorts his body in a reinterpretation of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. I swear this man has no bones in his body.

Hipsters and Hashtags

If there’s a nonconformist hipster living inside you, they don’t want to watch this video. It’s already received 300+ views, so you totally need to boycott this mainstream malarkey.

However, if your hipster level is camo pants and middle partings, you may like the latest music video from comedy duo of Nic Smal and Gareth Allison. The hashtag besties wax lyrical about hipsterdom in Cape Town from the nesting doll approach to storing pencils to using hamster milk in flat whites. Hipsters tend to watch viral videos on Vimeo, so check out Hipsters and Hashtags on YouTube.

It’s a Twerking Bonanza in Major Lazer’s New Music Video

Butts, butts everywhere.

The wibbly wobbly twerk dance takes centre stage in the music video to Major Lazer’s new single. If you’ve seen any Major Lazer music videos before, the alarms bells should already be ringing. Prepare for more Eric Wareheim absurdity as behinds get blown up in Bubble Butt. NSFW, obviously.

Not that I was paying attention, but the track features the singing talents of Bruno Mars, Mystic, and Tyga.

Watch This Amazing Oil-Painted Music Video

If you loved the stop-motion music video to Shugo Tokumaru’s Katachi (refresh your memory), chances are you’ll appreciate the immense effort that went into creating Blown Minded.

Carine Khalifé is a French visual artist and a dab hand at animation, painting, and photography. She uses those skills to create this amazing stop-motion music video for Canadian indie band, Young Galaxy.

Like sand artist Kseniya Simonova, Khalifé also uses a light box to bring her artwork to life. Working in a dark room, she paints with oils on the glass atop the light box while an overhead camera captures her paintings, frame by painstaking frame. The textures and brush movements in the resulting stop-motion music video are beautiful to behold. Check out Blown Minded below.
