Memes are all the rage these days. London-based designer Stefan van Zoggel asks the question: if short-lived internet memes and virals were treated as classic full length films, what would their promotional posters look like? Luckily, van Zoggel took it upon himself to answer his own question. Have a look at some of his minimalist movie posters for memorable memes like Nyan Cat, Double Rainbow, Bed Intruder, the Russian rickroll, and two girls who only have one cup.
Imagine what might have happened if Darth Vader hadn’t met the ignominious end that he did in the Star Wars films. Had the Sith lord not turned to the dark side, Luke Skywalker would still have the use of his right hand and more importantly, wouldn’t have lost a father.
Illustrated by comic book artist Jeffrey Brown, Star Wars: Darth Vader and Son is a series of one-panel cartoons that take a look at the lives that the Skywalkers would have led if Darth Vader played an active role in the growth of his son. Watch Luke as he plays backseat driver, hates on his sister, and gets into a fight with Greedo (who pushed first?). Nostalgia never goes out of style and the love for all things 8-bit seems unbounded. For April Fool’s this year, Google showed off Google Maps for NES, an 8-bit layer that turned the world into a Nintendo-themed landscape. That love for 8-bit, NES, and the movies is certainly evident in the works of spritely graphic designer Eric Palmer.
Palmer illustrates the characters and themes from popular modern flicks using a minimal colour palette and classic Mega Man game sprites. Have a look at his retro 8-bit posters for Star Wars, 300, V for Vendetta, Kill Bill, and more after the jump.
Being an avid movie watcher, I use the term “movie” to includes both blockbusters and those busters that are somewhat less than blocky. I am constantly waiting on new reels of escapism. Unfortunately, with the film industry going gaga (not of the Lady variety) for 3D and apeshit for reboots and remakes, the offerings are few and far between.
Even though I’m a movie fan and not a film connoisseur, it’s very hard to look forward to anything that doesn’t fit into one of the aforementioned categories. So when prawn1 asked me to make a note of five—yes, Five!—movies that I have been looking forward to seeing this year, it was difficult to list to compile. Who does he think I am? Barry Ronge? However, I have done better than the five he originally asked, and I’ve found not seven, not nine, but a whole ten movies that I would (whether willingly or grudgingly) pay the ridiculous ticket fee to see. In his short film, Wes Ball of Oddball Animation studio creates the thrilling post-apocalyptic chase sequence in which an unnamed protagonist is invariably spotted by a flying sentry and must take to his trusty Yamaha motorcycle to escape. Check out RUIN below.

If you are a huge fan of the “Alien” franchise as I am, and if you haven’t heard of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, then my son you have been living under a rock.
After all those horrible sequels that followed Ridley Scott’s groundbreaking sci-fi epic, he has finally returned to give what all fans have been waiting for. Saying that, he has made it very clear that Prometheus really is not a reboot or an “Alien” movie. It’s more of a stand-alone film that so happens to take place in the Alien universe. Whatever it is, it will explain the origins of the Xenomorph and, finally, that mysterious fossilized creature found aboard the derelict ship in the first “Alien”.
One of the most exciting details to come out, is that they brought back H.R. Giger. Giger’s designs, as fans know, were the inspiration for the original Alien film, which included the creatures and the spacecraft. This is a good omen as his art, coupled with Scott’s vision, is what made the film the classic it is today.
The Plot: In the distant future, two superpowers control Earth and fight each other for all the solar system’s natural resources. When one side dispatches a team to a distant planet to terraform it for human colonization, the team discovers an indigenous race of bio-mechanoid killers.
The Cast: Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Logan Marshall-Green & Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland. Yes Peter Weyland, the eventual partner of the notorious Weyland-Yutani Corporation in the films. As you can tell the story is not following the “Alien vs Predator” film’s Charles Bishop Weyland played by Lance Henriksen.

Pixar Animation Studios has made a metric ton of cash. Its films have grossed USD 7 billion worldwide! In his series of posters, designer Wonchan Lee pays tribute to Pixar, not for its money-making abilities but for all the wonderful cute and heart-warming tales that they have created in the last 26 years. Project KARA is a short film created by Quantic Dream. That name may be familiar to those who experienced the psychological crime thriller, Heavy Rain.
In this seven-minute short, the French video game company uses their new motion-picture technology and the processing power of the PlayStation 3 to create a story of a humanoid robot that is being assembled. Conversant in over 300 languages and designed to be a general house helper (and sexual companion if need be), a third generation AX-400 android is being put through some standard tests, it soon becomes apparent to the operator that there are some ghosts in the machine…
Quantic Dream are quick to downplay the talk that Project KARA may be a scene from an upcoming game. It’s reportedly just a tech demo.
