Three Frames

The idea behind Three Frames is to deconstruct a movie into a three-framed animated GIF that is on an endless loop. The results are bizarre, retro, and strangely cool.

It’s a basic concept, but if simple things amuse simple minds, then it’s got me hypnotized. Have a look at some of them below – a 1000 points to anyone who guesses which movies the animations are from.

See more at the Three Frames tumblelog. Note that some of the animations are NSFW and could induce seizures.

The Anatomical Art Of Fernando Vincente

Like Valerio Carrubba, Spanish artist Fernando Vincente also creates macabre illustrations, albeit from a more mechanical perspective.

In his Vanitas series, Vincente combines anatomy and portraiture to capture the classic beauty of his subjects. Have a look at some images below – click to embiggen.

In the Anatomías collection, he dissects the inner-workings of a human being to reveal the machinery hidden underneath. See these images after the jump.

You Are My Favorite Buddha Call

I heard this yesterday and laughed, hysterically so. In something similar to “Cheaters” but on the radio, Supersnake, the host of Kiss FM’s show “I Knew You Was a Snake” accepts a call from an Indian wife, who thinks that her arranged husband, Raj, may be cheating on her. She asks Supersnake to help confirm her suspicions.

I don’t want to spoil any of it for you, so have a listen to the clip below, it’s 10 minutes long but totally worth it.

If the player doesn’t work for you, download the file from here.

[thanks Lucy Furr]

Canabalt

Created in 5 days by indie game developer Atomic Adam for the Experimental Gameplay Project, Canabalt is a fantastic running and jumping side scroller that uses a mere 6 colours to display everything. You play a well-dressed man who can’t stop running, leaping from one building to another, avoiding robots, spaceships, and other obstacles as you race along. Your mission – survive for as long as you can.

The levels are randomly generated and get faster as you progress. The music complements the gameplay and was created by composer Danny B.

It’s top-notch, addictive, and only requires the use of one button. Play Canabalt at adamatomic.com. I lasted 2088 metres before hitting a fokken wall. Let us know how you fared.

BONUS: If you have a widescreen monitor, try the MEGA HUGE VERSION.

Are You A Digital Genius? Let’s Find Out!

The title says it all. In a new viral game from Hewlett Packard, Digital Genius asks you to complete a series of brain teasers to gauge your digital intelligence. At the end, you can compare your score to that of real members of Mensa who have also played the game.

It’s 15 minutes long and that’s 14 minutes more than my ADD-riddled mind can endure.

Play the game after the jump or head to HP Digital Genius. Drop us a comment with your score.

The Psychedelic Art of Tadanori Yokoo

I don’t know much about graphic design but I do know what I like. And I love the art of Tadanori Yokoo. The 73-year old graphic designer is widely recognized as one of Japan’s most successful and influential artists.

Yokoo’s interests in mysticism and psychedelic art shaped his work and in the late 60s, he created a number of eclectic posters. Take a look at some of them below – click the embiggen.

See more after the jump.

Soy Tu Aire: An Interactive Music Video

In one of the most striking music visualizations I’ve seen, the video for the single “Soy Tu Aire” by Spanish band Labuat lets you use the mouse to control the movement of an inked line as it moves across the canvas. The site records your effort and at the end of the song, you can re-play it.

It’s beautiful stuff. Check out Soy Tu Aire and let us know what you think.

Perfect prints: Team OLP and friends go screen printing

So a bunch of us decided to do a screen printing workshop with Toby (who is super cool) at Fittees in Obs. It’s something Prawn and I have always been interested in trying. We’ve taken books on the subject out of the library and looked at stuff on the interweb, but never got round to actually doing it. Anyway all I can say is, if you ever get the opportunity to learn about screen printing, you should definitely do it. Toby’s workshop is very good. He guides you through the whole process explaining every element most thoroughly and, you get good coffee and yummy snacks!

On the Friday before the workshop, we sent our chosen designs to Toby who created positives by printing the designs out on acetate. On Saturday, screens were primed with a chemical that becomes impermeable to ink when exposed to light, our designs were placed on the screens, and the screens where then exposed to bright light. The area of the screen covered by the positive image, stayed permeable and thus our designs were transferred onto the screens. We then chose our ink colours and got busy printing onto t-shirts, calico and paper with some really wicked results.

Hit the jump to see more photos of the workshop, and our finished prints.

The 8-Bit Trip

In what could possibly be one of the greatest Lego music videos yet seen, 8-Bit Trip is a stop-motion tribute to classic video games that took 1500 pain-staking hours to create. The results are nothing less than awesome. Check it out below or see it in HD at YouTube.

The video was created by animator Tomas Redigh and musician Daniel Larsson, the duo that make up Swedish band Rymdreglage.
