Insane Office Escape!

Shot from the first person perspective (the cool kids call it FPS), Insane Office Escape video tells story of a gentleman who turns from humdrum office worker to lethal combatant. The mystery man retrieves a special package from a safe and needs to escape an office full of co-workers who want to do him serious harm. It’s judo chops, flying kicks, and attacks with “slippery floor” signs in this adrenaline-pumping escape sequence. Check it out below.

Insane Office Escape is actually the music video for The Stampede by Biting Elbows.

The Raid

Some films are all talk, and no action. The Raid isn’t one of those films, not according to the trailer at least. In this Indonesian action film directed by Welsh director Gareth Evans, it seems a rundown apartment block in Jakarta is home to a ruthless drug lord and his vicious cronies. The beat cops are too scared to even ring the doorbell, so it is up to a 20-man squad of elite cops to raid the apartment and take down the boss.

The plot may be paper-thin but it certainly sets up the throat-slitting, face-shooting, ass-kicking action that is about to assault you. Take a look at the action-packed red band trailer to The Raid.

The movie showcases the Indonesian martial art  of Pencak Silat. It premiered at the Toronto Film Festival to much acclaim. Sony Pictures Worldwide have acquired the distribution rights but IMDB tells us that there are currently no release dates for any of the territories aside from Indonesia.

Sure that’s putting a simple spin on what is an immersive, challenging, and extremely fun game. But on the rare occasion I’m confronted with a game of this high quality, I frown on waxing lyrical. Instead I’ll put it to you as simply as I can — this is a brilliant game with a bewildering array of choice. We Review: Resistance 3

I never played Resistance before this third iteration, mostly because I only recently joined the Toaster Ownership Fraternity , but largely due to it simply not standing out in the massive backlog of PS3 titles that I needed to catch up on. The “Benham’s Top” Illusion: What Colour Do You See?

Gizmodo posted a rather trippy optical illusion yesterday where the green and the blue in this spiral are actually the same color. As interesting as that is (the explanation is here), one of the commenters submitted another illusion that caught my eye.

The Benham top, created by nineteenth-century British toymaker Charles Benham, is a disc that contains a black-and-white pattern, which when spun gives the illusion of colour. These colours are visible on different parts of the disk, and not everyone see the same colour.

I see red quite clearly. What about you?

Amazing Wood-Chip Sculptures by Sergei Bobkov

You might not believe it, but what looks like taxidermied animals are in fact made from completely from wood chips. Russian school teacher Sergei Bobkov cuts chips from the Siberian cedar to create wonderfully detailed sculptures of birds and animals.

To make the plummage for his bird sculptures, he cuts the wood chips from a cedar stick and soaks them in water for several days. He then rolls them into the shape of a feather. It’s a labour-intensive project and Bobkov spents up to six months to produce a sculpture. Have a look at some of his creations after the jump.

In the Shadow of Saturn

You might not believe it, but this is an actual photograph reported to have been taken back in 2006 as the Cassini space probe sheltered in the shadow of Saturn. It was 2.2 million kilometers away from the gas giant when it took the photograph.

Astronomy Photo of the Day explains the image thus:

The robotic Cassini spacecraft now orbiting Saturn drifted in giant planet’s shadow for about 12 hours in 2006 and looked back toward the eclipsed Sun. Cassini saw a view unlike any other.

First, the night side of Saturn is seen to be partly lit by light reflected from its own majestic ring system. Next, the rings themselves appear dark when silhouetted against Saturn, but quite bright when viewed away from Saturn, slightly scattering sunlight, in this exaggerated color image.

The Koopa Call to Arms

King Koopa is at his wit’s end. Despite having an almost unlimited supply of Goombas, tanks, naval vessels, and an air force, it seems that ridding the Mushroom Kingdom of a pudgy plumber has proved more difficult than planned. The great Koopa has now turned to the power of advertising to gain more support for his cause.

In a set of emotionally-charged propaganda posters, Bowser asks the question, “The Koopa are fighting. Why aren’t you?” and calls for residents of Mushroom Kingdom to join the great Koopa cause. See the set of posters after the jump.
