The Fantastic…Avengers?

DeviantArt artist theDURRRRIAN created some wonderful works based on the idea of the Avengers meeting up with Magic: The Gathering. What we have are some gorgeously poignant and familiar characters with a twist that makes me wish there were a comic series based on these illustrations. Check them out after the break.

We Review: Art Academy: Atelier

Art Academy for the Wii U is more of an app than a game, but its object is to teach people to draw and paint using the Wii U gamepad. A test of whether it is successful would be whether the skills learned within it are transferrable to proper pencil and paper media outside the app. I pulled out my easel and plonked the gamepad on it. Oh the conclusions I’ve drawn!

An Eye on Convenience Part 2: The Canon PowerShot SX600 HS

With its #CreateWithCanon campaign, Canon South Africa wants to encourage the use of its cameras in the urban creative and photography hobbyist markets.

You may recall my first #CreateWithCanon post where I had a gander at the PowerShot SX600 HS, its build quality, connectivity features, and how easily it fit into my pocket. I did gloss over the shooting modes, so let’s take a look at the finer details in this post.

Floppy Drives Recreate Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit”

YouTube user Arganalth makes music from a suitcase stuffed with two hard drives and six floppy drives. This time he has re-created a 90s classic from cult rock band, Nirvana. It sure smells like burnt hard drive.

An Eye on Convenience: The Canon PowerShot SX600 HS

One’s priorities change the older one gets, so they say. I find that with every growing year now (I am in my 30s), convenience is pretty high on the list of priorities. So I’d prefer my computers to be pre-built. I like to file my tax online rather than getting it wrong on paper. I want my purchases to come to me and not the other way around. I’m like that with cameras too. Gone are the days when I’d want my camera to come in pieces and requires a separate backpack to carry it all in. I want something discreet, a shooter that I can easily slip down a pocket just as easily as I can pick it up for those quick snaps.

Like the other camera manufacturers, Canon caters for a variety of tastes and budget. The ranges are incredulous – the PowerShot range alone has 149 digital cameras from five different series!

The PowerShot range is Canon’s answer to convenient photography with cameras that are more portable and fun, and emphasize the ease of use over their bulky and more expensive cousins in the EOS range. With its #CreateWithCanon campaign, Canon South Africa wants to encourage the use of its cameras in the urban creative and photography hobbyist markets. As a part of this campaign, I take a look at the PowerShot SX series (SX stands for “Super Zoom”, FYI), and in particular, the PowerShot SX600 HS.

Ascii Fluid Dynamics

Now this is completely awesome–an ASCII fluid dynamics simulator! The project was an entry by Yusuke Endoh to the International Obfuscated C Code Contest (or IOCCC) back in 2012 (which in itself is a fascinating thing). Just watch the text fluid in action.

If you want more information about it, or want to compile and try it for yourself, check the information page of the IOCCC project over here, or check out the home page of the IOCCC for more strange projects like this.

Dancing Cranes

Japanese designer Ugoita T assembles a fabulous quintet of dancing origami cranes. The paper birds shake their tails atop a magnetized stage and go on to produce a most charming dance routine. Check out Dancing Paper below.

Dancing Paper was created for a Honda art event in China.

Andry “Shango” Rajoelina works as a designer in the animation industry and his series of Super Families portraits this time focuses on video game characters.
