The Adventures of Robot Elephant!

A school student is attending a biology lecture that so happens to be terminally boring (been there, snored through that). To pass the time, this student uses the pages of his notebook to draw out the adventures of a very cute, very special elephant. The stop-motion animation is a tad slow to begin but it then becomes quite a blast. Check out epic doodle that is (Notes on) Biology.

Cute Animal-ipsticks!

Smiling is apparently the second best thing you can do with your lips. We wager DeviantArt user Paige Thompson may have found another wonderful use. Using old face paint she creates images of chameleons, crabs, foxes, pandas, and even Pikachu on her lips. She calls them her series of cute creatures, Animal-ipsticks. Take a look at her animal lip art after the jump.

Snow Motion: Dachshund Puppy Plays In The Snow

OMG, this is adorable. Meet Iso, the Dachshund puppy who likes nothing better than a roll around in the snow. It’s such a cute video shot in slow motion to the tune “Endless Song of Happiness” by singer-songwriter Yael Naim.

There is more slo-mo Iso goodness after the jump, where he plays fetch and takes a bath.

Whippets are Awesome!

If you’re a regular visitor to the blog, you may have seen photos of our toy fox terrier Mina and our zany whippet, Panya. Aside from another local, Mallix, who has one and a few other people we have encountered on the mountain and the beach, the whippet doesn’t seem to be that popular a breed in Cape Town. On a number of occasions, after Panya has jumped all over the people she meets, we’re asked if she is a Greyhound (bigger) or an Italian Greyhound (smaller).

Despite their sleek look it’s a fallacy that they need to be exercised constantly and rigorously. Whippets often spend the majority of the day sleeping, so much so that they even have a particular napping position, called the cockroach (example). Be it dozing on the couch, sporting a fancy hat, or careering off into the distance, a whippet is a thing of beauty and a joy forever. See a small collection of these lovable dogs after the jump.

The Story of Life, Told With Fingers

In this rather interesting short film, freelance animator Cyriak (real name) takes us through the evolution of life here on Earth using the medium of walking fingers. Yes, you read right. Now watch in amazement below.

No fingering jokes, please.

Amazing Cat and Dog Ads

The internet is a magical place, in fact it is the best source of weird and wonderful content. From the strange to the cute, almost anything can be found. More importantly I have had more time to troll my Twitter account, and I found some awesome stuff. @Pfangirl retweeted an amazing video originally posted by @Yolandi_JvR about a Pedigree ad, which involves cute dogs catching some treats at 1,000 frames per second.

After I showed it to prawn1, he sent me a link with a similar and on-topic video of a Friskies ad. This contained the first (and possibly only) video that was filmed by cats. Different cats across the USA were equipped with HD cameras and left to roam the world as they usually do, for us to see the world from a cat’s perspective.

So who do you think is the next generation of movie stars in the furry industry?

Who Let The Dogs Out 4: Behind The Scenes

Sometimes I wish I the ghost of Henri Cartier-Bresson would inhabit my body. It’s not just because I want to have a suave French accent, more so for his talent for snap-shooting photography. His goal was to capture the candid moments of life and it’s that kind of thing I attempt to do when I snap Mina and Panya on our outings.

I’m far from being an accomplished photographer so I end up with a boatloads of crap images which I have to sift through before finding a few gems to post here on the blog. I see a lot of bum shots, and ordinarily that would be a good thing, but in my case, the rear ends belong to a pair of dogs. In any case I thought I’d share some of these rubbish shots with you after the jump.

Beautiful Dog Portraits by Tim Flach

If you liked Evan Kafka’s funny pet portraits you may like the works of 52-year-old British photographer Tim Flach. He shoots a variety of animals including bats, turkeys, frogs, dogs, and fish.

“I shoot bats, embryos and flies on shit. I’m fascinated by how we interpret and humanize images of animals.”

Today we take a look at his series of portraits entitled Dog Gods where he pays tribute to canis lupus familiaris, our furry best friends. The set is made awesome by the super-cute thick-matted Komondor. Have a look at some of his shots after the jump.

Evan Kafka’s Super Cute Animal Portraits

Visitors to the blog may be acquainted with our puppies Mina and Panya. They’re very sweet dogs (although Mina dislikes cyclists and joggers) and the all photos I have taken of them are spur of the moment. They’re nigh uncontrollable and I’m as as likely of getting our pets to pose for photos as I am of getting them to recite the alphabet, backwards.

I’d like to be able to shoots animals as New York City photographer Evan Kafka does. His pet portraits are so emotive and so ridiculously cute. Have a look at some of his work after the jump.

Who Let The Dogs Out 3: Return to Paradise

If you follow us on Twitter and visit the blog occasionally, you may know of our two puppies – Mina the fox terrier terrorist and Panya our whippet of destruction. When they’re not lounging about at home chewing on all of my stuff, we like to take them for walkies. It’s usually up the mountain close to where we live, but for treats, they get to run amok on the beach.

Yesterday was such a great day so we got up early (9:00am) and headed out to Sunset Beach in Milnerton. You might think this déjà vu – we have been to that very beach in Who Let The Dog Out #1. In episode 2, they escaped to Arniston, and led lives of “baie mooi honde”. Now, in episode 3, they return to paradise to frolic and pester little children. We had our camera on hand and snapped a couple of photos to share with you. Find them after the jump.
