We had a garden once. And then came the two terrors, Big Min and Lil’ Pun, who decided to re-decorate it for us by digging up the soil and gleefully eating the succulents. I would have severely disciplined them if not for the fact that they’re so very cute. Yes I know, I have a soft touch. But you didn’t visit to hear about my appendages.
Mirko Faienza, a cameraman from Italy, decided to document his father’s front garden and the insects that call it home. It’s an amazing little world made that much better by Mirko’s spectacular videography. The music is great too, it’s a truly beautiful piece. See My Father’s Garden below or watch it in HD on Vimeo.
He created the short film with his Panasonic 500 camcorder and an HD lens. See more of Mirko’s work on his website.

The day started off as it usually does – cigarette, coffee, internet, work internet, ciggie, internet, ciggie, casual insult, ciggie, internet, internet. And for some reason, I am inexplicably drawn to cute content today. First there were the photos of Panya, the newest addition to our family of pets. She’s about 6 weeks old, and such a sweetie pie, except when she decides to nom on our ears during the middle of the night.
Then there was Chii, the shiba inu that puts on the biggest smile whenever her master is nearby. It’s adorable.

And now, the pygmy jerboa. According to Wikipedia, jerboas are hopping desert rodents with long tufted tails, very long hind legs, and quite possibly the cutest things in the world.
If you found any cute stuff today, be sure to send it to along to us.

I got this from Lucy Furr’s twitter (she is known as FurryLuce if you’d like to follow her) and it was too beautiful not to post here. When Lucy and I went to Thailand in 2006, we visited a snake park and it was such a depressing situation seeing these beautiful creatures cooped up in dirty glass boxes; some of the poisonous snakes had bleeding gums, presumably from the frequently milking they were subjected to.
It’s just something painful I remembered when I saw the amazing shots from Italian photographer Guido Mocafico. In his two-part Serpens series, Mocafico photographs snakes in a color-neutral, enclosed space to bring out their hypnotic beauty. The patterns and colours that result are amazing to say the least. You’ll find some of the photos after the jump.
Nacho Gil is a designer/illustrator from Argentina and in his recent series, he uses bold, graphic shapes to illustrate the beauty of animals. It’s simple yet powerful – kinda like me if I went to the gym. ;-)

Teodoru Badiu was born in Romania but now makes his living in Vienna, Austria as a freelance artist and creative media designer. His new vector designs are colourful and whimsical, showing otherworldly creatures and plants living together in perfect harmony. The Enchanted Forest totally made me smile. Take a look.

Everyone says that a dog is a man’s best friend, but they never tell you the caveat – pay attention to your dog’s request for affection or they’ll mess you up. Watch as this naked web surfer (his bits are censored so it’s SFW) experiences this first-hand.
Wait for the punch line, wait for it…
Doing the laundry is a drag and thus washing machines were invented. It appears that washing one’s household pet has become a chore as well, so a French Entrepreneur Romain Jerry has created the Dog ‘O’ Matic, an automated dog-washing machine. The wash takes 30 minutes in total – 5 minutes for the wash, and 25 minutes for drying the animal. Apparently it is rare for dogs to get agitated during the wash, but if this becomes the case, the door can easily be opened at any time during the wash.
I foresee a whole bunch of dog-washing launderettes opening up. I also imagine certain tweaks that can be applied – for our “dog-as-food” cousins across the seas, it can be renamed to the Dog ‘O’ Roast – 5 minutes to de-hair the dog, and 25 minutes to roast it to perfection ;-)

It’s dance party time, and Ernesto the Chihuahua (not real name) is feeling feisty. Someone took this video of his awesome dance moves. YouTubers are crying animal cruelty so you better watch it before it gets flagged as such and promptly removed.
Sure the little guy is tied up to an entertainment centre, but they probably eat Chihuahuas where he lives so those happy feet are the very thing keeping him from becoming a dipping snack at a Sunday barbecue.

YouTube user dokugyunyu created this fantastic stop-motion video where a wolf and a pig are involved in an epic chase scene around the city. 1300 printed photos were used in the making of this clip and there’s a quirky soundtrack to go with it. Check it out.
