THOR!

I always reserve my opinion on a comic book-to-film transfer only after I have seen the trailer, and FINALLY, Thor is here.

Kenneth Branagh, a strange choice, has brought the Asgaardian god to the screen and from the looks of the trailer, he has stuck to the source material. I honestly didn’t see the thespian actor and director making the cross from Shakespeare to Marvel, but hey if meant Anthony Hopkins playing Odin, so be it. Other notables are Natalie Portman as Jane Foster the love interest and Rene Russo playing Odin’s wife, Frigga.

Small note, this teaser shows a hell of a lot and if you don’t want it spoiled for you, I suggest not clicking play.

THOR stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Stellan Skarsgard, Jaimie Alexander, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Josh Dallas, Tadanobu Asano, Idris Elba, Clark Gregg, and Colm Feore & most importantly Mjolnir.

Thor will be in theaters in May 2011.

Is it just me or do those costumes look very plasticky, especially Odin’s eye patch?

I heard we’ll be subjected to Thor in 3D, but it’ll be added in post-production. Clash of the Titans came under flack for bolting 3D on as an afterthought.

Why everything in 3D???? Just cheapens the whole deal. leave well enough alone, but I guess they want the biggest return on their movies now.

Everyone seems to be cashing in on the bonanza created by Avatar. I don’t think that trend will end anytime soon.

The LA Times mentions that Branagh was skeptical in the beginning but has more faith now considering they are planning for it from the beginning. Clash of the Titans reported added the 3D stuff in 10 weeks of slapdash post-production.

Its one thing when a movie is created from the beginning with 3D as a medium and another to butcher it to cash in on the 3D craze. The only people who can end this is the ticket buyers.

There’s no use putting it up on YouTube, it’ll always get taken down. You’ll need to find a less popular alternative.

I have found another source though, so the trailer is up again.
