The 2010 Vader Project

Darth Vader is a likable chap. He is romantic, can rap, and even gives good directions. Since 2007, artists have been paying tribute to the iconic sith lord by customizing a 1:1 scale replica of the actual Darth Vader helmet used in the Star Wars films.

It’s called The Vader Project and this year 100 notable artists were asked to re-imagine the Darth Vader helmet in their own styles. The results are eclectic to say the least. Have a look at a few of the designs after the jump.

I particularly like the “Full Metal Jacket” type military helmet, complete with a pack of Marlboro Reds. Which one is your favourite?

The exhibition is on tour, and come July 10th, The Vader Project goes up for auction at Freeman’s Auction House in Philadelphia.

Hey Abe, I popped the curator of The Vader Project a mail asking if they had a spare helmet for you to customize. It appears each helmet costs around USD 900.00 so that won’t happen I’m afraid.

Cool stuff. the first one is awesome, the rest not too bad either. I would say it needs more imagination.
