Win Exclusive Prototype Action Figures!

Radical Entertainment’s shape-shifting open-world action game Prototype is a little over a week away from release in South Africa. As a birthday present to me (from me), Prototype has been pre-ordered from online retailer Kalahari.net. Fingers crossed that I’ll get the limited edition Alex Mercer figurine that comes with that (am_nesia hope you’re reading this ;-))

If you haven’t pre-ordered Prototype yet and missed out on the figurine, or just like collecting this kind of stuff, our friends over at Curious Onion are giving away two of the intricately-designed, 7-inch tall action figures of the super powerful anti-hero. It looks like this:

If you want to stand a chance at winning one, head to Curious Onion for the full competition details.

Mickey Mouse Ungloved: The Horror, the HORROR!

I don’t know about you but I don’t like to think about what ghastly tortures a cow went through to become the juicy fillet sitting on my dinner plate. Ignorance is total bliss.

Equally, I’d prefer not to know who or what the person in the Mickey Mouse costume looks like. Disneyland Paris on the other hand disagrees and decided to unglove the lovable mascot in a bid to “humanize Mickey Mouse”.

Sweet baby Jesus! The hand only has four freaking fingers (alliteration, I knows it ;-)) – and stubby ones at that. What child is going to hold hands with a four-fingered monster? I think this ad has succeeded in offering a potentially human element to Mickey Mouse as much as Syphilis has done to improve your IQ.

What do you think?

Han Solo, P.I.

When I was growing up I wanted to be a private dick – by dick I mean a detective and not a rent boy or someone called Richard. Magnum, P.I. was a role model for me – he lived in a fancy house, drove a Ferrari 308 GTS, had unlimited supplies of beer, and always got the ladies. I dreamed of living a life like but minus the bushy moustache and overflowing chest hair that Magnum had – that was just nasty. But I digress (I seem to do a lot of that don’t I?)

Han Solo, P.I. is another fan-made Star Wars TV intro mashup of the Magnum, P.I. main title sequence but with Harrison Ford as Han Solo. Check it out.

This mashup is pretty remarkable in how closely it follows the original. Watch the side-by-side comparison below.

Check out more Star Wars TV intros after the jump.

Keeping it Local: E3 Gaming News from SA Blogs

Usually we like to leave gaming news up to our friends at the local gaming blogs… and today is no exception ;-) . If you’re a gamer then your attention should be firmly fixed on the happenings at the annual trade show E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) where video game developers rock up to show off their upcoming games and game-related hardware.

E3 2009 is in full swing from today until June 4th at the Los Angeles Convention Center and in our link loving post today we’ll cover some of the E3 news as reported by the South African gaming blogs. Check it:

  • A selection of the most exciting videos shown at E3. Assassin’s Creed 2 is in Venice and Metal Gear Solid: Rising comes to the Xbox 360.
  • Details from Microsoft’s impressive press conference. Good things are afoot.
  • Project Natal is Microsoft’s new motion controller that’s not really a controller at all. Could this dethrone Nintendo in the motion sensing department?
  • See Project Natal in action. Looks fun if a little nerdy and has the potential to cause self-injury.
  • EA release screenshots of Need For Speed: SHIFT. Will this title boost the franchise out of the doldrums?
  • Dante’s Inferno Trailer at E3. “Go to Hell” is an appropriate slogan.
  • PC-killer Crysis sees sequel heading to consoles. Crysis 2 says no consoles to needed be upgraded – hooray!

If you’ve found interesting E3 articles on other local gaming blog, let us know.

Forever Fail: Misspelled Tattoos

I like tattoos and I’d be covered in them if I didn’t like the pain that comes with getting one done. Then again, pain is part of the ritual I’m told. I have a minimal tolerance to any type of pain and thus tend to admire other peoples’ tattoos.

Whilst some tattoos can be absolutely awesome – Lucy Furr has a detailed one of the goddess Lakshmi on her back – others can be downright hideous and a permanent reminder of the mistake that was made. And nothing says forever FAIL quite like a misspelled tattoo ;-)

More misspelled tattoo goodness at Oddee.

A Nudge in the Wrong Direction

Everyone says that a dog is a man’s best friend, but they never tell you the caveat – pay attention to your dog’s request for affection or they’ll mess you up. Watch as this naked web surfer (his bits are censored so it’s SFW) experiences this first-hand.

Wait for the punch line, wait for it…

Eminem Gets T-Bagged by Bruno at the MTV Movie Awards

Sacha Baron Cohen never fails to amuse me. The star of the upcoming movie Brüno made a hilarious entrance in the MTV Movie Awards. As he soared into the auditorium with wings strapped on his back, he seemed to hit the rigging, strained his sugar lumps, and splashed down on top of unwitting rapper Eminem. I don’t know if this was ‘planned’ not but Bruno landed face down with his balls in Eminem’s face! Epic win!

Watch the video below. If it gets removed due to copyright infringements, you can try HERE or HERE.

Brüno’s delivered the best male performance ever, but Eminem didn’t take the joke too well and left the stage disgusted. He obviously didn’t get the memo.

BONUS: The 2009 MTV Movie Award winners can be found at Channel 24.
