Oh, Word! It’s a DigitalCamo Competition

If there’s one thing I can say about Abe from DigitalCamo.co.za, it’s that he has great hair. Pure jealousy courses through my veins every time I contemplate its awesomeness.

So Awesome Abe dropped me a line about a little competition he is running where you get to play a game and then win something. Find the details (and a little surprise) after the jump.

Michael Bay For Victoria’s Secret

I think it’s safe to say director Michael Bay’s penchant for blowing stuff up is unmatched, although Roland Emmerich did give it a good try in the disaster porn, 2012. Now, it seems lingerie company Victoria’s Secret need a little more oomph to their advertising campaign and tasked Bay to come up with a commercial.

In “One Gift. A Thousand Fantasies.” Bay shows off all the things that has made him famous – explosions, helicopters, desert landscapes, and rock music. Oh, and there’s a bunch of leggy women in lingerie – I have no idea how they got there, but I think they did their own stunts. Have a look at it below or see it in HD goodness on YouTube.

Well, what was your favourite part? I’d have to say Marisa Miller on the pool table hit the spot, although I don’t think her shot was altogether legal, one leg does need to be grounded at all times.

The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon

“It will kill you. Even if it takes the rest of your life.” Director Richard Gale’s comedy/horror short film has a title that is even longer than the tag line it describes.

“The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon” tells the story of everyday man Jack Cucchiaio is who is being stalked by the most relentless murderer of all time. The heinous creature intends on bashing Jack to death…with a spoon!

See the epic 10-minute trailer below or watch it in HD on YouTube – it’s a scream ;-)

Gale’s trailer has been viewed over 1.5 million times and the extended cut of the movie will soon be available on DVD. More info on that at www.richard-gale.com.

Enter The GameState

This is not one of those paid-for advertisements. I know this because I don’t feel any richer/happier, even though for today, I accept payment in the form of ice cream.

Described as “The most epic gaming show. Ever. Seriously.”, GameState is a brand new channel on Zoopy TV dedicated to gaming news. I know what you’re thinking – given the plethora of international gaming sites and local gaming blogs, what new stuff is GameState going to bring to the table? Currently there isn’t much chew on aside from a few game reviews and interviews, but you have a chance of telling GameState what you think of it thus far and suggest improvements or things they can consider for inclusion in future shows. Here’s a couple of things I jotted down:

  • Show needs hawt cheerleaders.
  • Every presenter needs a sidekick, perhaps a little child dressed in a banana suit.
  • A Game of the Year run-down.
  • Christmas shopping list suggestions.

Your (constructive) feedback will not go unrewarded,  the viewer who gives them the most valuable feedback will win a gaming hamper from Megarom.

Here’s what you need to do – head on over to www.zoopy.com/tv/gamestate, watch the content, and send your feedback to the show’s delectable host, Grant Hinds – grant@zoopy.com. Remember to include your email address, contact phone number, console(s) of choice, and the relevant website you represent. If you happen to fill in Onelargeprawn.co.za for the last bit and get selected as the winner, I’ll win a prize too, and it’ll be a lot better than ice cream. Huzzah!

You have until December 18th to get your suggestions in. Good luck!

The Tetris God

All this time I was under the impression that I controlled my fate. Now I found out there is a god, and he is vengeful.

The Twisted, Violent Worlds of Charlie Immer

This is beautifully gross. Flights through other worlds can often be whimsical, but Charlie Immer is tired of that stereotype. The worlds created by this artist and illustrator from New York are harrowingly dangerous, where the creatures in the scenes are about to meet their end in a most brutal and gory way. Danger lurks around every corner, a cautionary tale indeed.

Have a look at some of his art after the jump.

Invictus

I heard about this film last year some time, and I’ll admit I wasn’t happy. Not about the story, it was Matt Damon being cast as ’95 Bok captain Francois Pienaar. I always cringe when American actors portray South Africans, especially White South Africans as they never get the accent correct and well they don’t look South African. But after watching the trailer for this Clint Eastwood directed film nogal, I think Matt pulled it off.

The film is based on the book Playing The Enemy: Nelson Mandela And The Game That Changed a Nation by John Carlin. Showing the transformation of a nation with the release of Mandela and the Springboks lifting the ’95 Rugby world Cup. It stars Morgan Freeman as President Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar.

It’s set for a December 11th 2009 release in South Africa.

Adventures With “A”

So I have the (dis)pleasure of attending a Microsoft Word training course. Whilst my colleague and general misanthrope, Feeyyaad, was busy creating the world’s ugliest table, I pondered about strippers, calamari, and typography. The latter led me to the most awesome works of Cape Town illustrator, Brandt Botes.

From amputees to assholes, his “Adventures with A” series show the typographic adventures of the first letter. Check them out after the jump.

Tiger in the rough

It’s nothing new really. Professional athlete reaches the top his/her, mostly his,  game and decides it’s time to cut loose. And well Tiger Woods did just that. Why did we think he was infallible is beyond me and the media circus going bananas over it is also a bit crazy. Maybe it’s because he was so squeaky clean and did everything right was the problem, either way I’m loving it and cannot get enough of the Tiger jokes.

You know ever since the news broke on Tiger’s indiscretions, I knew it was going to be good material for stand-up comics everywhere. And SNL has never disappointed.  Check out Kenan Thompson as Tiger.

Play This: Wake Up The Box

We have been lax about posting time-wasters lately and because I have an unimpeachable reputation, the blame must lay with you. It’s alright, I forgive you, just don’t let it happen again or things will get ugly, fast. ;-)

If you remember Splitter, then chances are you will like Eugene Karataev’s latest effort, Wake Up The Box. It seems the narcoleptic Mr Box has gone to sleep and because you hate slackers, it is your job to wake the bugger up. Use the wood pieces provided to give the sleepy box a rude awakening – the look on its face is priceless.

Play Wake Up The Box at Kongregate.
