Cyporn by Pierrick Thebault

Pssst. Have you come home from a tiring day at the office? Do you want to relax, have a cup of soothing Chamomile tea, and enjoy some pixel porn? Well then I have just the thing for you.

Cyporn is an art installation by Pierrick Thébault, and interface designer and journalist for Amusement Magazine. Inspired by the avatars of Cyworld, which is apparently the number one social networking website in South Korea, Thébault created a set of 5 pixel porn scenes of characters who left their saccharine-sweet home of Cyworld and to seek a more hedonistic lifestyle in the Game Boy.

Find the pixel porn scenes after the jump.

Homer Simpson’s Photo-A-Day For 39 Years

This is so 2007, but cool nonetheless. Taken from The Simpsons Season 19 episode 9, which was aired December 16, 2007, Homer takes a photo of himself every day for 39 years. It’s a parody of Noah Kalina’s famous video where he took daily images of himself for a period of 6 years. The original music is by Carly Commando and entitled “Everyday”.

See Homer’s transformation below.

Pigeon Race 2009: Will A Homing Pigeon Beat The Telco Giant?

In a satirical attempt to highlight slow and often inconsistent transfer speeds in South Africa, a financial services company has decided to host Pigeon Race 2009. The company postulates that in a data race, a pigeon could haul a 4GB file to a location faster than it can be transferred through a normal land line. The affable 11-month old homing pigeon, named Winston, will have a 4 GB flash stick SD card strapped to its leg and will fly from the company’s call centre in Howick to its head office in Hillcrest, Durban, a distance of 80 km.

Risking bad weather and death by predatory hawks, the pigeon is expected to arrive in 45 minutes whilst the landline transfer is expected to take two days. The race is expected to start tomorrow. Keep updated with the story on Pigeon Race 2009.

Already people have placed more favour with the pigeon over the telco giant – a commenter on The Times article feels that the pigeon will be faster even if it walks. And some MyBroadband forum members think someone will shoot the bird so they can braai it. Others think Telkom might be hard at working trying to secure an unimpeded connection to secure the win.

What are your thoughts?

[via MyBroadband]

Update (09/09/09):  Winston did not disappoint his 1000+ Facebook fans, landing safely in 2 hours 6 minutes and 57 seconds. At that point the ADSL transfer still around four percent complete. A round of applause  for Winston and birdband

News travels fast – Winston makes it onto the Daily Mail and gets Slashdotted.

Oozing Coolness: Coarse Toys

German artist Mark Landwehr loves sculpture and when he decided to create 3D pieces out of his drawings, he didn’t even think about producing toys. Working in Honk Kong, he now runs the Coarse Toy company, making fantastic art toys. Some 12-25 inches tall, the toys are made out of vinyl, resin, and fabric, and come in packaging that is just as arty at the model itself. Have a look at some of them below.

James May And The Full-Sized LEGO House

With a penchant for good wine and ‘careful’ driving (he passed his driving test on his second attempt), the multi-talented James May is exploring yet another passion – toys, more specifically LEGO. After a couple of beers down the pub, May decided it would be a good idea to build the world’s first two-storey house from LEGO bricks. The process will be filmed for the BBC series, James May’s Toy Stories.

Situated at at Denbies Wine Estate in Surrey, May’s LEGO palace is based around a wooden infrastructure, will use over over 816 million LEGO pieces and will even have a working a LEGO toilet. Around 1,200 people have been helping May, and once the house is built, he has promised to live in it.

I’m planning to stay there for two or three days, or until it falls down – whichever is sooner. I’m pretty relaxed about it, but will just have to be careful moving around.

If I wake up buried under a pile of bricks I’ll know it’s gone wrong.

Have a look at the construction below. More images can be found at Jalopnik.

Started on August 1, the house is due to be completed at the end of this week.

Canabalt

Created in 5 days by indie game developer Atomic Adam for the Experimental Gameplay Project, Canabalt is a fantastic running and jumping side scroller that uses a mere 6 colours to display everything. You play a well-dressed man who can’t stop running, leaping from one building to another, avoiding robots, spaceships, and other obstacles as you race along. Your mission – survive for as long as you can.

The levels are randomly generated and get faster as you progress. The music complements the gameplay and was created by composer Danny B.

It’s top-notch, addictive, and only requires the use of one button. Play Canabalt at adamatomic.com. I lasted 2088 metres before hitting a fokken wall. Let us know how you fared.

BONUS: If you have a widescreen monitor, try the MEGA HUGE VERSION.
