The Men Who Stare At Goats

Men Who Stare At Goats. A goofy title with an equally oddball set of characters, one of whom can kill goats just by staring at them. That is all I’m going to say because, today, I’m all about brevity (read: lazy).

No goats, no glory. Check out the teaser trailer below or watch it in HD at YouTube.

Based on the non-fiction book by Jon Ronson, the film stars George Clooney, Jeff Bridges, Ewan Macgregor, Kevin Spacey, and Goat. It’s slated for November 6th in the U.S. and possibly April 9th, 2010 in South Africa according to this list.

[Thanks for the tip Macross]

Star Trek As The A-Team

As you may have read on the Intertubes, South African actor and District 9 star Sharlto Copley is in final negotiations to play the role of oddball chopper pilot, Captain “Howling Mad” Murdock, in in the upcoming A-Team movie (which we blogged about earlier).

Rounding up the team will be Liam Neeson as John ‘Hannibal’ Smith, Bradley Cooper as the Faceman, and former UFC world light heavyweight champion Quinton (Rampage) Jackson as Sgt. B.A. Baracus. Jessica Biel is linked to the project where she will be trying to act herself out of a paper bag, a task which frequent commenter Macross seems to think is impossible ;-)

He also passed this most amusing mashup onto us. It’s a parody of the A-Team theme song starring the cast of Star Trek. Check it out.

Now wasn’t that just a ball of awesome? Thanks Macross!

The Anatomical Art Of Fernando Vincente

Like Valerio Carrubba, Spanish artist Fernando Vincente also creates macabre illustrations, albeit from a more mechanical perspective.

In his Vanitas series, Vincente combines anatomy and portraiture to capture the classic beauty of his subjects. Have a look at some images below – click to embiggen.

In the Anatomías collection, he dissects the inner-workings of a human being to reveal the machinery hidden underneath. See these images after the jump.

Happy Monday 7: The Death Head T-shirt Winners!

A thousand apologies for the lateness, I had to see a man about a dog. The man was late, but the dog did look enticing ;-)

Back on topic though, our most awesome Death Head t-shirt competition has come to an end, and we’re hoping to make Monday a little happier for two lucky people. To stand a chance of winning a t-shirt, we asked you to name the three bad guys that make up the Death Head design. A quick look on the a store blog would have revealed the answer to be General Grievous, Robocop, and Darth Vader (it’s his head with the helmet off).

The Randomizer has done its thing and spat out the winners. Could you be one of them? Find out after the jump.

You Are My Favorite Buddha Call

I heard this yesterday and laughed, hysterically so. In something similar to “Cheaters” but on the radio, Supersnake, the host of Kiss FM’s show “I Knew You Was a Snake” accepts a call from an Indian wife, who thinks that her arranged husband, Raj, may be cheating on her. She asks Supersnake to help confirm her suspicions.

I don’t want to spoil any of it for you, so have a listen to the clip below, it’s 10 minutes long but totally worth it.

If the player doesn’t work for you, download the file from here.

The Animals By Nacho Gil

Nacho Gil is a designer/illustrator from Argentina and in his recent series, he uses bold, graphic shapes to illustrate the beauty of animals. It’s simple yet powerful – kinda like me if I went to the gym. ;-)

Derren Brown And The Lotto Prediction

English illusionist/mentalist/wizard Derren Brown had prepared for this moment for over a year, and on Wednesday night, he showed off his latest trick – correctly predicting Wednesday night’s UK lottery numbers!

Broadcasting from a secret location, Brown had written his predictions down on a line of ball, but for legal reasons could not show them before BBC One’s live National Lottery draw. Moments after the draw, Brown revealed his predictions, which were an exact match for the winning numbers, making him the first person ever to successfully predict the national lottery numbers live on air! See the video below or watch it in high quality at YouTube.

Since the video aired, various theories have been flying around the internet including:

  • Receiving insider information
  • Projecting the numbers onto blank balls
  • Switching the numbers
  • Mass hypnosis
  • Time travel
  • Camera tricks

YouTube user mutatedmonty posted a clip of his solution. Check it out.

In another programme tonight, Brown will talk through a number of ways he might have pulled off the trick. In the meantime discuss the theories at the Derren Brown Lottery Predictionblog.

UPDATE: The BBC reports that Brown claims he asked asked 24 people to guess the Lotto numbers and then used an average to make his prediction. A professor of pure mathematics at the University of Oxford called shenanigans, saying “Mathematically it is complete rubbish. It is a bluff on his part”. Others claim split screen trickery was used.

Rad Fabrics from Shine Shine

Unlike some people I don’t know nor have ever met, I don’t use the word rad very often. BUT today I’ve found fabric designs that totally…rad. I was surfing the Elle Decoration site (as one does), and came across some fantastic fabric designs by Tracy Rushmere’s label Shine Shine. From Obama to Rosemary’s junk in the trunk, to Madonna (not the muscular singer), the designs are colourful and creative, like me I hear you say? You’re too kind ;-)

See some of the designs below.

The fabrics are available in cotton, oilcloth and upholstery linen, and Tracy makes cushions, tees, handbags, and laptop sleeves from them. Based in Cape Town, check them out at www.shineshine.co.za.
