Invictus

I heard about this film last year some time, and I’ll admit I wasn’t happy. Not about the story, it was Matt Damon being cast as ’95 Bok captain Francois Pienaar. I always cringe when American actors portray South Africans, especially White South Africans as they never get the accent correct and well they don’t look South African. But after watching the trailer for this Clint Eastwood directed film nogal, I think Matt pulled it off.

The film is based on the book Playing The Enemy: Nelson Mandela And The Game That Changed a Nation by John Carlin. Showing the transformation of a nation with the release of Mandela and the Springboks lifting the ’95 Rugby world Cup. It stars Morgan Freeman as President Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar.

It’s set for a December 11th 2009 release in South Africa.

Dude, I don’t know. That trailer didn’t do anything to me. Not being such a rugby fan, I think I may just wait for the other epic tale, you know where the cricket team beat Australia’s 434 runs with one ball to spare.

Seth Rogen can play the skipper and and James Franco can take the role of Herbal. It’ll be like the Pineapple Express of the cricket world.

Clint eastwood is a good storyteller, and I think he will do a good job. I know its going to be really annoying at certain parts, what with american s jaded view of our history and hero worship.

lol… i can picture seth and james discussing a good cricketer “if ponting and sewag had a baby and meanwhile smith and kallis had a baby, and by some miracle those two babies got together and f*******ked….”

anyway, i reckon it will be an interesting movie (invictus) but i don’t think it will properly represent what actually was going on during that period of south african history.
and i so badly want to see matt damon play rugby… has to be worth a laugh at worst :D
