The nomination period for the SA Blog Awards has come to an end, and the finalists in all the different categories have been posted. Unfortunately the Onelargeprawn blog fell victim to the culling process and we didn’t make it into the next round. It’s just as well that I didn’t write a winning speech beforehand, but I would like to thank our readers for visiting, interacting with us, and nominating us. It’s much appreciated.
I’d be pants-on-fire liar if I said I wasn’t disappointed but the people behind the finalist blogs are very accomplished and I definitely praise them for their efforts. So head over to the SA Blog Awards and vote for your favourite blogs, you might just find local gems you never knew existed.

I am very surprised by the blogs who were nominated… I had heard of very few of them to be honest and am wondering how they worked out the finalists?
Apparently it’s the public votes and then the judges pick the finalists. I don’t want to sound like sour grapes, but it stings a bit to find out one of the finalists in the Best New Blog category lasted updated his blog on the 4th of March, and before that it was the 17th of February.
I think what screwed a lot of us was the fact that a valid nomination had to include more than one blog. (it wasn’t clearly highlighted though) So if someone just nominated onelargeprawn in their submission, it would not count.
Balls.
@Shaun Oakes: Yes I only found that out recently, a bit of an oversight on the part of SA Blog Awards. I don’t think people are aware about all local blogs out there so I doubt the few that nominated me nominated others. In hindsight I should have listed suggestions for other blogs that could be nominated.
Chocolate salty balls indeed.
*Raises drink in hand to those who did not make the final cut*
I think the other thing that might have caught a lot of people out was the fact that if you clicked on one person’s link that pre-filled their blog in various categories and voted and then did the same on someone else’s blog it would discard your previous votes not collate them.
@Deems: I did not know that. I hope they sort these issues out for next year and add a few more categories as well, not including a “Best Gaming Blog” is another oversight.
Oooh controversy – Who is auditing the SA Blog Awards?

Referring to the fact that you had to vote for more than one blog: that’s not right man. What if you only enjoy going to one blog? BOLLOCKS I say.
And as for the rules being broken… more bollocks. They should redo this whole thing so I can include my crappy little blog that I NEVER post in :D
Congrats to those that made it to the finals…
Again, I’m very dissappointed OLP didn’t make it as I feel it’s one of the best new blogs around ;)
Kudo’s to you for keeping it real and entertaining us with your whatnots and whoosits :D
Thanks for the compliments LiNK$, glad you’re entertained. There’s always next year for the One Large Party ;)
Are you sure the comment on having to nominate multiple blogs is true? Yes it was like that if you merely went to the blog awards site, but if someone clicked on your nominate dog tag, then it seemed to work fine with just that blog selected. Otherwise I dont know how I made it?
Controversy indeed. The organisers now bent the rules to keep the status quo and not to offend. I really don’t think this year’s awards were free or fair. It’s a pity really.
